No. While there may be an unofficial "church of celebrity" in the US, Oprah is not the only person in it--and I think that misguidedness is more the fault of people who get so worked up over celebrities than the celebrities themselves. It's true that a few seasons ago, Oprah had a lot of new age authors on, like Sarah Ban Breathnach ("Simple Abundance"), and Gary Zukov ("Seat of the Soul"), but that's spirituality, not religion. Biiig difference.
I, too, applaud all her charitable works, and the fact that she's helped increase the number of recreational readers in this country. More power to her.

Absolutely, Oprah herself is an idol that many people do worship. There are people who live and breathe on every word she speaks and follow her shows more closely than a Muslim's fixation on prayer. Most people don't realize it and don't have any issues with following her. Think about it - just because people don't kneel down and pray - but they are jumping up and down and getting all bent out of shape in seeing her and so this is basically the same thing as worship. If we saw people paying the same homage to God in a church - we'd say they were nutso would we not?

No but she did create a great school for abused girls in Africa and I commend her for it. Hope she does it here as well.
