I'm not sure of the material but I believe it is ceramic tile. It has
a pretty smooth surface and is heavy. The size was just right
for fitting inside the oven and I've prepared a few pizzas directly
on the surface.
Is this safe ?
I have heard that some ceramic pottery is not safe for use in cooking due to the material in the glaze. So is it known whether the floor tile is glazed in the unsafe way ?

thanks

You can buy cooking tiles for that at any kitchen store.

That is a great question. I watched a show on the Food Network that Alton Brown did and he used a clay pot for cooking. Didn't know you could do that!! Maybe you can research his show and find something relating to pizza. I would say that something that is glazed could be dangerous, because of the chemicals in the product used to glazed the tile. You could always buy a pizza stone, that is what it is meant to be used as.

How could WE know what the tile is glazed with? Do you still have the box the tile came in so you can call Dupont? Honestly, leave the cooking to Pizza Hut and live to eat it!!

No, DO NOT COOK IT WITH THE CERAMIC POTTERY TILE--UNLESS YOU WANT TO SEE IF IT'S SAFE OR NOT- SO IF I READ IN OUR NEWSPAPER OR ON THE NATIONAL NEWS THAT A FAMILY OF 4 DIED FROM EATING PIZZA BAKED ON A CERAMIC TILE- I'LL KNOW WHO IT WAS........

Sorry to be mean, but be REAL. The chemicals are TOXIC!

No such concern as "as little artwork as obtainable" - there is fullyyt "as lots artwork because it takes". Slate could be impervious yet its floor is particularly scratched or stained by using chemical components or oils, so care needs to be taken. If emulsion paint, i might propose applying a hair-dryer on heat placing (no longer warm), water and a non-abrasive cleansing pad (many times a green nylon cleansing pad will suffice) - and an suited degree of attempt. attempt an a small section first. After effective removing it must be needed to reseal the floor against added spillages (if the tiles have been in the previous sealed).

If it is glazed to hold food there will be a sticker on it somewhere informing you of that...floor tiles are definately glazed with that type of glaze (things like cookie jars are automatically done with a safe glaze) becareful you could be posioning yourself
