Get a few credit cards that have no annual fee and put them away. Your Credit Score is calculated by how much credit you have total compared to how debt you have compared to how long you have had the credit cards.
Put your credit cards away and keep your debt low and after 1 to 2 years your score should nearly tripple.

Your credit score is based mostly on:
1. Length of credit history
2. Payment history.
3. Ratio of credit used to available credit.
4. Number of credit inquiries you authorized.
You want to deliberately keep your oldest credit card open, even if you never use it.
You want to always pay the minimums of each loan on time every month.
You want to keep your available credit high, but actually only have balances equalinig 25% or less.
You want to keep your credit inquiries to a minimum. Try for no more than 3 or 4 per year for any type of loans.
You do these things and your credit score will quickly soar into the 700s.

You can't really get better credit without spending money. My husband and I were told recently by a credit counselor that the best way to make your credit jump is:
1 get a credit card
2 buy something
3 pay it all off when you get the bill
4 your credit starts to look better

just get a credit card and use it to pay your bills, that way then you pay the credit card instead so that builds your credit
