The first three of these stages are all about getting started. They apply to anyone who’s not actually regularly exercising at the moment. If you were active in the past, but don’t now (i.e. you’re in the “Relapse” stage), then, motivationally speaking, you’re in one of these stages. Just as a reminder, the stages are:

- Pre-Contemplation: When you’re not active, not thinking about it, and really don’t see why you should be;

- Contemplation: When you’re thinking about getting active, but not quite ready to get around to it yet; and

- Preparation: You’ve thought, you’ve decided, and you’re making arrangements as you read this – you’re just about to start, honestly!

PRE-CONTEMPLATION

If you’re at the Pre-Contemplation stage, you don’t really want to change. Others might have said you should, or you may have read something about why activity’s supposed to be good for you, but deep down, you’re not convinced. As far as you’re concerned, there’s nothing wrong with your life exactly as is.

If this sounds like you, I invite you to take a candid look at your life. Are you truly happy with how things are? Look back over where you are now compared to where you were ten years ago. If the same trend continued for another ten years, would you honestly be happy with where you’d end up?

If so, congratulations! You’re the only person who knows what’s right for you, and no-one, including me, can tell you how you should feel about it. If there’s nothing you’d like to change about your exercise habits, you probably don’t need to be reading this article. If you find, however, that there are things about your life that could be better, let yourself think about them. What’s not exactly the way you want it?

What would your life look like if it *was* the way you wanted it? What would you feel like? You don’t have to do anything right now to change – just let yourself think about what could be better.

CONTEMPLATION

If you’re at this stage, you know you want to make a change, and you’re thinking about what your life might be like if you make it. You’re not quite ready yet though, and that’s OK. Instead of beating yourself up for not having started yet, take a deep breath and give yourself a chance to really explore why you want to get more active.

What exactly do you want? To become healthier? Stronger? To slim down or tone up? Why do you want it? What difference will it make in your life? These are questions that will help to make it easier to stay motivated in future.

Think about how you could turn what you want into a specific, measurable goal. Ensure sure that goal is big enough to inspire you, but realistic enough that you don’t believe it’s doomed to failure from the beginning. If you have a *really* big goal (for example, to lose a large amount of weight, or to compete in a sporting event), think about breaking it down into a series of smaller goals.

Consider starting a fitness journal to answer these questions (if you already keep a journal, just write them in there). Once you’re sure you’re crystal clear on why you want to exercise, you’ll find yourself moving naturally into the next stage – your ‘why’ will drive you to thinking about the ‘how’

PREPARATION

At this stage, you’ve decided that the need for change is stronger than the need to stay the same, and you’ve started thinking about how to make it happen. You might contact a gym, call a personal trainer, or just decide to go for a regular walk.

If you’re here now, it’s time to start exploring how you’re going to make your goal happen. There are many ways to be active, and it’s important to find what’s right for you. The quickest way to kill your motivation is to just throw yourself into the first exercise programme you come across and expect willpower to keep you going. Willpower may be a factor, but your programme also needs to be enjoyable, convenient, and work for your budget. Some possibilities you may want to consider include:

- Gym classes
- Dance
- Martial arts
- Mind/body activities like yoga or t’ai ch’i
- Walking/hiking/running
- Cycling
- Swimming
- Weights training

Record your research and thoughts in your fitness journal. If you can’t find anything that sounds like it will be convenient, enjoyable and affordable, think about consulting a fitness professional. Chances are, if you understand where you want to be and why, as you start investigating how you can create routines that will get you there *and* let you enjoy yourself when you do, you’ll find yourself itching to get started.

Which is when you move into the next stage - Action.

ok, I just posted this to another person! Stay away from the pills is my advise! I tried all sorts and they just made be hyper or edgy. Not fun with a toddler running around or a baby either! Anyway I suggest this ....first 7 days only eat 1200 calories per day......about 135 grams of protein.......about 90 grams of of carbs.....and 33 grams of fat. (It is very hard if you are not used to eating healthy!! My first few days were horrible!!) Stock up on Lean Cuisine Micowave Meals, Rice cakes, and 100 calorie popcorn!! Weeks 2-6, or desired weight achieved, or a plateau in weight consume 1600 caloris per day.....about 180 grams of protein...120 grams of carbs.....and 45 grams of fat. Remember to drink water..(it is pretty easy on this diet considering it is all you can really have as a "freebie" besides diet soda. The first week is to jump start your body....our bodies become a bit lazy when it gets into a routine. Even though you are active the body is holding on to what it has because it is comfy or even because you are not getting enough calories in your daily food intake and are just gettting the other stuff in in excess, so the body tends to hold on to what it has because it fears it may be all it has. Hopefully that makes since. Anyway, All 5 women that did this diet with me lost a substantial amount of weight in the first week! After the first week you lose between .5 adn 1.5 lbs. per week. On 10/2/06 I weighed 170 and on 10/14/06 I weighed 160. 7 pounds of that were body fat!! Anyway, I got down to 143 lbs before Thanksgiving and went from a size 15 jean to a size 6! I have not been dieting or excercising for about 3 weeks and I haven't gained at all....the diet plan is to reach the target weight and go off the diet until you gain 3 lbs and then go back to the 1200 calorie diet for a few days and then lose the 3 lbs...etc...etc... eventually you only have to diet once a month to keep your target weight! It is all about training your metabolism. Hope this helps!!

"PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM DIET PILLS!!" Try this instead...I did the south beach diet and w/in 2wks lost 15lbs just from following the diet w/out exercise. I then included exercise into the later phases. But if you can tolerate eating a lot(which you have to do on it) and lots of protein and eggs then you will do great!! I enjoyed it better than Atkins b/c eventually you gradually bring back some carbs and sugars. It's also good b/c if you happen to mess up you can always start back at the first phase. I didn't buy the big book but went to Walmart and bought the smaller book for like $5 which breaks down the good and bad foods through all 3 phases. Think of it as a change of life instead of a diet! And remember, there's really no quick way! But I've offered this to a lot of ppl on here and they loved it! Good Luck w/whatever you decide and I hope you hit your goal!!

Well I do not trust anything that is out there. Call and get in appointment with your primary doctor and ask how you can loose all the pregnancy weight and the stress weight. Well I should do and everybody else that want to loose weight is go for a night jog and a mourning jog and eat allot of fruits and vegetables and lots of water. I am also trying to loose about 20 Ibs. you can go in the websites of weight it tells you how much you supposed to weigh you put your height and weight and if of course you are a female and it should tell you how much you need to loose.I hope this helps. Good Luck

I spent about 300 on relacore thinking it was going to be a miracle pill. Sorry, it didn't work at all. Then I got smart and did research into foods and diet and after ten years I am finally losing weight. I have to eat healthy and workout cardio everyday and weights every other day.
There is no such thing as a miracle pill. It is a money trap.

Age has nothing to do with getting fat! I am almost 45 and I am thin because I changed my diet and make room in my schedule for exercise. I am in better shape than many women in their late teens and early twenties! 30 is a young lady to me. Here is the scoop! forget fad diets and pills! make time in the morning for a good power walk with some music. After work do the same and if you have kids go take them to a playground and jog on the grounds with some music because you can see them while jogging a circle. When you take a break during your work day do a little exercise. Many people use a break for smoking anyway. Get rid of as much carbs as possible. If I get a sandwich I eat only the middle and throw away the bread. Bread is the enemy and whole grains are your friend. Soups and lean cuisines are great for office eating because you have control of your fat grams and calories. I know how you feel because I went from working outdoors to working a desk job and only a small adjustment in lifestyle is needed. Stay away from stupid pills. Ever notice they say they work with diet change and exercise? You can save money with getting better quality foods. Avoid shakes because your body quickly eliminates them and you feel hungry for solid food anyway. I eat eggs in the morning with a corn tortilla and it is a filling stick to your ribs feeling. I have a sweet tooth also and sugar free hard candies taste great and I recommend life savers sugar free and at wal-mart they have Baskin-Robins icecream flavored hard candies. Hope this helps you

whatever you do, its the nutrition that plays a mojor role in weight management. Its like having the right fuel to drive your vehicle:
Men1"=1kg=2.2lbs and women 1"=800gms=1.76lbs standard weight
Fat% men 16% and women 26% upto age 39ys
Calorie intake:- 2000-2200 for men and 1500-1800 for women
If you adhere to this parameter you can lose or gain weight by using cellular nutrition- available in 63 countries currently, only through authorised constants-replacing two of you meals with cellular nutrition and having one meal of your choice, plus drinking one liter of water for every 20ks=44lbs to lose weight 1 to 2 lbs per week and do maintenance for equal period of weight loss , replacing one meal a day, not gain back what you lost.

The cleansing diet is definitely the way to go, my friends have had great success with it. It consists of delicious high protein shakes that you replace meals with and cleansers that clean those fatty toxins out of your body. The shakes leave you feeling full and the cleanser must me some sort of miracle formula ;) Email me at jdplamenac@yahoo.com and I can tell you how to get it at a very discounted price (I save 100 bucks a month), retail is very expensive. Anyone else feel free to email me.
