Having lived about an hour away, I learned the best way to deal with them is not to deal with them at all. No, most people in the Bible Belt find Fred Phelps and his family of prejudiced crazies just that: prejudiced crazies.
He is wanted in Iowa for burning the Iowa flag on the steps of the capitol building, and the last time his "church" held a protest here, he wasn't man enough to show up himself. He sent his grandkids. Go figure.
Just ignore him. Even he thinks he's going to hell. So, let him.

Oh God I doubt it. It only takes a small amount of intelligence to know that these people have none.
Texas is a very conservative bible belt state. There is still much prejudice here, especially in the small east Texas towns. I have seen no support or anything near the hate of Westboro in south Texas.
I would doubt that Westboro would find many supporters in this whole country, including the south.

i have not met any of them yet.
however if they were to protest the funeral of anyone in my family
that died in service to the country, or simply because they might happen to be gay, i would probably deal with them the way that they dael with everyone else that they taunt into physical altercations.
i would have my rich lawyer uncle sue the living hell out of them.
i would much rather just walk over with a ball bat and go to town, but they are all family, and most of them are lawyers, and they make a lot of money by sueing towns and people when they get attacked for what they do. so i would say fight fire with fire...
arggghhhh the mental anguish that they have caused me......
and then when they are broke and i have their house...i would turn it into a Gay swingers club. even though i am straight i would do it just to piss them off.

You have to ignore them. The promote nothing but hate and are just out to attract attention. The sad thing is that they involve their children in the protests. I live pretty close to Topeka and see them alot standing on the street corners. It's best to just ignore the hatred that comes from them. Pray for them too.

I live just outside of Topeka, so I frequently have to put up with these bigots. One plan a friend of mine had has potential though. My friend was nicknamed "Jesus" because his hair looks like Da Vinci's Last Supper. He wants to dress in flowing white robes and hire actors to dress as angels. Then he wants to take a prop sword attached to a tank of propane, for the fiery look. Then, looking fully like the second coming he wants to stand outside their headquarters shouting "God doesn't hate fags, He hates you!"
Just a thought.

Ignore them. The only they seek is attention and there's one too many ignorant people willing to give them attention.

I don't think there are any reasonable, rational Christians that support that bunch of wackos.

I agree with dary - they do what they do to get a rise out of people. Just ignore them and hope they go away.
