I do not think it is legal anywhere to make up a name or to knowingly use the wrong name. That would be falsifing a legal document. It may also be considered fraud.
One option to consider is leaving the line blank and list noone. That being said, the mother has a responsibility to inform the father of his paternity and give him the ipportunity to be a part of that childs life. If he is a danger to the child, the safest and most responsible action would be to have his parental rights terminated by the court and a restraining order prohibiting his from interacting with the child.
If you simply try to hide the paternity, he may use that later to make a play for custody, claiming deceit, etc. If one is truly wanting to think of the child first, get a lawyer and protect your self by following the law.

I do not know Canadian law but here are my thought.
Does the father know he is the father or a father?
If so I think you would have a problem.
All he would have to do is get the court to order a paternity test.
If he doesn't know you are pregnant or that he is the father then you could likely list someone else as the father.
If questioned later you could claim that you thought you had the right person.
However, for the most complete protection you should consult a family law attorney to know what your rights and obligations are.
You could also leave the area so that the baby was born elsewhere and just leave the father's identification blank.
Again consult an attorney or go to a legal aide office.
They give legal advice for free.
Best of Luck.

I had a g/f who did not put my name on the birth certificate and she tried putting someone elses name on the certificate and she was almost thrown in jail. So needless to say it's totally illegal but if he is a serious danger to ur kids then just put ur name down and say you dont know who the father is. He can fight it thru court but it will work your way till then.

i live in BC, and you can list the father as unknown and give the baby your last name . it is illegal to falsify a legal document. If you know he is the father, and dont want him in the baby's life list him as the father, give the baby your last name and hope he doesnt come after you for custody. . You can also take him to family court for support payments, but that doesn't seem to be an option you would like to persue

In the U.S. if the mother doesn't want to name the father she can have them simply put "unknown". However if she does so she can not later on go after him for child support.

in oklahoma, you don't have to put the name on the bc even if you are married. if they ask, you just say "i prefer not to divulge that information." that info comes from my divorce lawyer. i wouldn't put a family member's name on the bc - incest questions may be raised. see if you can just leave it blank. that's what i'm going to do. if he's not going to be there at the birth (and i doubt you'd have to tell him, just make sure he's not your emergency contact at the hospital or someone may call). if you have to put a name down, put john doe or something. you may want to consult an attourney who specializes on family law, as well. most consultations are free.

well, im not sure, but in texas i could of named my son anything i wanted to. of course, i gave brandon his fathers last name (looked good when we went to court). anyway. you should be able to give your child any name you wish....it doesn't even have to be yours....if your not using yours, a good way to start is naming your child after a relative or a role model that is in your childs life....(however, it's best not to name a child after someone who might end up leaving too!)
good luck!
