Congratulations to you on your engagement!
Dance is mentioned in Psalms 30:11, 149:3; Ecclesiastes 3:4; Matthew 11:17; 2Samuel 6:12-23; Exodus 15; Luke 15:22-27; Matthew 14:1-12.
These are all the places in the Bible that inform about dancing, sometimes in parable, that I am aware of. If you read and then listen to your heart, you might form your OWN decision, based on the word.
Music is mentioned in 1 Chronicles ch 25; Judges 5:3; Psalms 27:6, 95:2, 98:4, 108:1, 150; Ephesians 5:1; Revelations ch. 5, 7, & 19.

I have to giggle a little when I read what everyone else wrote. Dance was, and always has been a part of religion. I don't think it really matters what religion you look at, there is some kind of dancing and singing going on.
Are you even aware of all the different kinds of Christian music there are? There's everything from easy listening to screamo metal. Christian music is all about spreading love, and hope, and celebrating God.
I'm not sure what denomination you are, but I've never in my life hear anyone say that because you are Christian you can't dance, or that you only have to listen to Christian music.
I think that in the end, you need to pick whatever you want and feel comfortable with for your reception. If you want people to have a really good time, I strongly suggest the music and dancing, and different styles of music, whether it be all Christian or not.

I'm a Christian too, and there is nothing wrong with music and dancing at a wedding! After all, it is a celebration of your love, your vows, and your commitment to each other and to God. Making music and dancing are mentioned throughout the Bible, and they are never condemned. I honestly don't know where other people get this idea from because it is not scriptural. I've been to many Christian weddings where they had music and dancing at the reception, and everyone enjoyed it.
That said, when my husband and I were looking at churches to have our wedding in, surprisingly, some of them did have some "peculiar" rules about the music and dancing. So, you may have to hold the reception at a location other than the church social hall.
Congratulations and best wishes!

Oh, and Alicia, I'm Baptist, and we do not believe dancing is sinful. In fact, my pastor will be getting married outdoors in April, and he will most definitely have music and dancing at the reception.

My opinion is that music is a strong way of getting a message through. Unfortunately it can have its positive message and also its negative one. As long as there is no bad language or message in the song/music and you are sure on where you stand spiritually then it is alright to do so. As far as dancing to it I believe that if it is a innocent dance it should be OK. Remember one thing, we are talking about the year '2006. Now if we were talking about old doctrines then that is a whole different topic. I guess it all matters on where you stand before GOD and how much of a blessing you want to be to him and all the others you must introduce to the all mighty. This is my opinion, some may be with it and some may be completely against it. We are all here to give some knowledge and thought to one another to give someone good insight on rights & wrongs. If yahoo answers doesn't help you on this answer, I guareentee that a little 1 on 1 with GOD will give it to you. GOD BLESS.

Most of this goes back to days when dancing was considered by the church to be wrong, now days it is a different story. Talk to some of the old people and you will also find out that playing card games were considered wrong by the church at one time as well. My Fiancée and I are getting married in 11 days and we will have some dancing. We both are Christians and we want our first dance, daddy/daughter, and mother/son dance. This is your day. If you want to dance, then dance. If people tell you it is wrong, remind them of the time David danced in the Bible and ask them to prove using the Bible that it is wrong.

I am also a christian and also getting married and we are not going to have a dance. We believe in celebrating and yes music does celebrate our great God but it also has to be christian music not music that doesn't please God. We have attended Christian weddings and my friends have hired a christian band to celebrate with their music on while all the moving around of mingiling and dinning is going on. I am pround to say I am a Christian that can celebrate in the way I feel more comfortable with. If you feel comfortable with how you are going to celebrate your wedding then do so. But I also can tell you to seek God and ask him Which is the right way to celebrate. May God bless you on your wedding and what you do.

What denomination are you? Some denominations, such as Baptists, see dancing as a sinful activity. If in doubt, consult your clergy member of choice, or ask a knowledgable family member.
If you want dancing at your reception, and are one of those such denominations, choose a non-religious reception location. Then nobody can say anything about it!

I am Christian too & all of my children had bands & dancing at their receptions. No vulgar music & everyone had a great time. Some danced & some did not - it was their choice. I danced with my husband & it was fun. Good luck & try to to listen to too many opinions.

King David danced before the lord in celebration. God has blessed you with each other - dance in praise to Him.

that's dumb. I'm a christian and i listen to music, and i love to dance. I believe that music especially celebrates god. It's so beautiful, that when you really listen to it and think about what you're listening to it shows how real god is.
