My boyfriend and I were talking about honeymoons and he was remembering some old wedding tradition he had heard. He couldn't rememeber if it was, "you should honeymoon in a place that you will not be able to revisit" (i.e. it will be extra special that way), or if it was "you should honeymoon in a place that you can revisit someday with your spouse". Maybe he has it completely wrong, but none the less, any thoughts or answers to this question would be greatly appreciated!

I've never heard that, but it's probably something the tourism committee of Cancun came up with to get Americans to waste thousands on their "packages", lol.

Honeymoon wherever feels best to you. Maybe that's Oahu, maybe that's South Africa. Heck, maybe it's the motel down the street or even your own home! Just make sure you turn off your cellphone, make with the bubble bath, and indulge yourselves. Those are the three key elements to a honeymoon!

I haven't heard of it is it an old slogan for Vegas?(What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas precursor) We didn't go anywhere special just stayed a couple extra nights in the Hotel we got married in I think as long as you are together its all that matters. Even if you were to go back when you were older it never would be the same place. I have heard of people that go back to where ever they went and are just disappointed its like the office Christmas party that's good one year and is never as good again but, you get stuck redoing it every year.

does it really matter? cause shouldn't your honeymoon be about spending time with now your spouse instead of where you're staying? i think it probably is up to you though, i think it would be nice to be able to go back to the same place you honeymooned like 25 years late and rekindle some of that spark that may have been lost due to kids and regular life. maybe somewhere you can go once a year and just getaway.

I guess it doesn't really matter.Whether the place is somewhere cheap or expensive, what matters is as long as the both of you enjoy each other's company as well as the place AND that your budget permits. To heck with old traditions,if you like the place then by all means make your way there for you 2nd honeymoon.
Congrats!

I have heard that your honeymoon should be someplace that is more difficult/ expensive to get to so its not something you could do anytime you wanted. That way later in life you could return and have like a second honeymoon but honestly no one follows that anymore. Do anyplace that you love that fits into your budget! Congrats

Don't worry about rules or traditions - go to a place that has all the activities you want (water sports? hiking? beach? shopping? nightlife?) that you can afford. Don't spend too much money since it's never worth going into debt for a vacation, and make sure you enjoy yourselves!

I think I've heard something like the second one. But you really should just be picking a place that will be special for you both and something you can afford. :)
