USA will need lots of troops and lots of navy men and ships too.
Almost 40% of the crude oil exported by the Middle east passes through Ocean very close to Iran.
Iran can close this vital seaway any time easily and only need few gunboats.
You cannot destory these gunboats by aerial bobmardment. You need men down there.

After the Israelis attack whom? If and when they do attack, they are certainly capable of handling their business. Unlike the US, Israel will not be so restrained when it comes to fighting in the middle east.
The US can handle up at any time if congress would let the dogs of war loose. It took 48 hours to take Baghdad, then hostilities were called off. If the military were again unleashed to their full potential, Iraqi dissidents and Iran would not stand a chance. The only thing holding us back are a bunch of whining, crybaby libtards who screamed for action after 911 and then screamed unfair when we took it.
The US military is comprised of well over 1,000,000
active duty members and then there are reserves and inactive reserves. Many people would be willing to enlist if there were a clear objective and victory in sight. Don't underestimate the resolve of America, as the Japanese did in WWII.

We don't have them. war supporters just can't seem to understand that. On and the 92,000 troops that Gates wants is going to be setting the stage for operations in Iran. make a note of that so it doesn't come as a surprise. At one point we had over 500,000 americans in vietnam. The outcome of that war wasn't pretty either.

I think the U.S. government has deemed Iran as non savagable. That means a conventional war to try and win the hearts and minds will not work, especially since Iran is a democracy. Iran would just be nuked to oblivion.

With Iran, it won't be ground war, but rather a "smart bomb"/missile based war in my opinion , intercontinental cruise missles, can't walk on water.
