The same, but different.

Think of it like identical twins....one with blonde hair...one with brown....they're the same...but different...but then I guess that would make them....not the same?

I've never heard it before, but I would guess it means something like they look different on the outside, but they are the same on the inside.

I think it's a clean version of "same sh*t, different day..." Usually applies to work.
