Guys,,, I've got an old Remington Model 12 .22 that has been handed down since my Great Grandfather gave it to my Grandpa when he was a boy. I was just cleaning it up, getting ready to give it to my son, (5 generations... kinda cool huh?), and started wondering how old it was. Serial # is 663602. It is stamped with both Remington Arms Co. INC., and Remington Arms U.M.C. CO. INC. Latest patent Date: April 16, 1912. If any of you guys like a challenge, let me know in your answer, I've got an old 1800's Belgian Damascus side by side 12 gauge I need some help with. The gun is in pretty nice shape, but the manufacturer's name is partially rubbed off.

I'm not concerned with the value of the .22 as it isn't worth much $$$wise,,,, worth a mint sentimentally. If you were looking it up, I would say it is 60%.
The old damascus, I just received, and am mainly just curious, if anyone had appropriate lit. resources, I would post the numbers I could get off of it. I need to get it appraised, as I am well aware that it could be worth anywhere from $150 - $5000, and I have no idea. It is a beautiful old gun in very good condition.

Hey James J., Don't worry, I'm not shooting the shotgun.... And yes, the little Remington is still a sweet shooter. Thanks

The Remington Model 12 was first introduced in 1909 and stopped production in 1936. Serial numbers go from 00001 through 820,759. Seeing as how your serial number is in the later years, maybe its from the 1920's. As for your Belgian Damascus, check out the link I provided. Maybe some the names will catch your eye.

My friend whom I hunted with as a child years ago had a Remington M-12 that He and I spent many fond hours shooting.
His gun, like yours was a passed-down heirloom. It was also a sweet-shooting little rifle.
How old was it?
Brother I wish I could tell you, but my guess is as good as yours at this point.
Go to a bookstore and look for a Big Blue Book of Gun Values or similar publication. That will tell you what you need to know easily.
As far as that double bbl., you know damascus barrels are not considered safe to shoot anymore don't you? They were designed in an era when shotgun shells were of low power and loaded with black powder or primitive, low power smokless powder. Unless It is a Parker, or other very rare and desirable old double , chances are it's value is mostly as a wall hanger or a representitive piece for a collection, and nearer the bottom end of your price estimation rather than the top.
These things still look beautiful above the fireplace, though,
...and after a hundred years or more what right do we have to ask more than that of them?
They're elderly! (but that Remington will shoot beautifully foreverer!

My dad was given a rifle with Belgian barrel, fits the description like you give, it was made by a New Orleans rifle maker in the late 1890s, worth around 100 bucks...that was top shape...
