He is a very lazy man, like a coach potato, he doesn't eat that healthy, but he is not fat at all, he is actually skinny, WHAT SHOULD I DO?

if he's very skinny its probably diabetes due to his body not producing insulin (or not enough) which is a cotransport molecule that helps glucose get into the cells so the cells can use it for energy. you should encourage him to be in touch with his doctor about his condition and to clean up his diet and maybe even suggest that you guys take walks together a couple times a week for exercise. the condition will only worsen and taken his life in the end. its hard to deal with but do the best you can to be encouraging and not critical.

You sound as if you know what to do.... eat properly and take good care of your health. If you want to avoid diabetes for sure, then it has been shown by Dr. Hans Diehl, and others, that a plant-based diet is the superior one to follow-- avoid any visible fats in your foods-- that is, eat nuts (sparingly) but don't use fatty oils for frying or as salad dressing, etc. Eat generously of ripe, fresh, organic, raw, juicy fruits and vegetables. Cut back on highly processed foods, sugars, starches, grains, and dairy. Cut out dairy altogether, if possible. Don't drink coffee, alcohol, soda, or sugary juices... drink pure water to quench your thirst.

Get 8 hours of sleep each night, remembering that 1 hour before midnight is equal to 2 hours after midnight.

Exercise.... find something you really enjoy doing and do it daily. Do something else occasionally for a little variety.

Keep positive. Be inspired. Hang with affirmative people.

All the best!

You did not mention how bad is the diabetes.

This is what my mom does to control my dad's level of sugar.

First of all take him for regular check ups ( get the doctor to advice on how often you need to come back)

Please control his food. Cut all forms of sugar from his daily food intake. In fact it would be much better if he doesnt take any sugar.

There are many alternatives for diabetes patients, they have special sugar which can be bought from pharmcy, to add in his coffee or tea or anything that he eats must be closely monitored.

If he loves rice, there is also alternative such as brown rice.

You need to get him all alternatives possible to reduce his sugar intake as much as possible.

There is no short cut for this one. Get him to walk.
My dad is actually on clutches, he cant walk without them but my mom makes it a point to take him walking every morning even with his sticks. They walk at least an hour every single day.

Spend more time to explain so he really understands the complication of this disease. If you can really control at this stage trust me there are many other consequences that you can avoid.

It takes a lot of sacrifice.
Take care of your dad and good luck.

Learn all you can about the disease and encourage you dad to test often and eat a controlled diet. PS it is much easier to be on a diet if those around you are supportive and also diet when eating with you.

there is nothing you can do, it is his choice.. You can go online and do some research and print it out and then take it to him and read it to him. Execise and eating right he could reverse it! It doesn't matter if he is fat or thin, diabetes doesn't care..

But it has SO much to do with what a person puts into their body..

The best thing to do is educate yourself about the disease. I'm sure his doctors have told him about it however sometimes pressure from family can help a person change their ways. Just inform yourself using the information you can find and then do what you can.

Ultimatly the choice is his and you have to live with it and still love him because he's your father.

Tell him that you're going for a walk & that you'd like him to come along. Start healthy meals, telling everyone that they will ALL benefit from it.

If that doesn't work, then flat out tell him that you want him to be around for your wedding day, & to see his beautiful grandchildren. It's worth a shot! Even add tears!

Get him to walk. Whether it's walking to to store rather than driving, jog, something. Not being active whether you are skinny or not takes a toll on your health. My mother has diabetes and she's changed her diet and started to walk more and it helps.
