All cars are good. My first car was $200 and I had it for 10 years. The main thing with engines is to listen to the sound of it. A scewdriver placed on the tappet cover will allow you to hear the inside of it louder. Place a piece of paper over the exhaust pipe. If the paper is ripped by exhaust moving backward it means the exhaust valves may be on their way out. Cheact the oil make sure their no water in it, brown sludge. Cooling system check when running that there are no bubbles, blown gaskets. Look under the car, rust. Getting the car service manual will help you further. But given the choice I'd buy new there are more eiffent, cops give you less trouble and those of the oppsite sex judge you by it.

Better to save for a year and buy one. If you can save somewhere between $300 to $500 a month, you could have somewhere between $3600 and $6000 by the same time the following year, and you could get a used car that would be about 1 to 2 years old, so it could be a used car, but one that could run for a long time.

Before you buy, check out price of insurance on different models, at your age it's going to be expensive. Good luck!

Buy what you can afford, but avoid unreliable brands like Mitsubishi, and Chrysler/Dodge small cars.
