I don't know if this is a medical or a martial arts question, but I am interested in knowing. Or if there is a medical condition that would cause the person being hit not to feel the pain in this area.

I'm trying to find out if a story is bs... this person says she was hit in a mugging and paralyzed, she passed out for a while. When she re-gained consciousness nothing hurt. She said that the last thing she remembers is a whack. She was also about 30 meters away from where she last remembers being, purseless and jacketless.

I am NOT trying to learn any moves. I am trying to understand what, if anything, happened to this person.

true. but not something to be learned. the human body is actually very fragile. unlike the movies, people do not just get back up after certain attacks.people are seriously hurt or handicapped for life. If you insist on learning these moves, save 'em for life or death, or -the prisoners of cell block A will be "puttin the moves on you".

In martial arts one is taught many areas that will disable an opponent using pressure points. It is the length of time that these points are under pressure that cause the opponent to lose conciousness from the pain induced. One is in the brachial plexus, one is behind the collarbone. However i am not at liberty to describe them to you any further as you have to take up the art and swear an oath that these methods will not be used indiscriminately. The reason is, you can severly paralyse or kill someone by doing this.
None of the actions you use in martial arts are painless.

I am not sure why you are asking the question. If you are going to hit someone, I would say don't worry about paralysis or pain, just hit them. if you are in a situation where you need to defend yourself, the eyes, ears, adams apple, instep, groin, are all sensitive places to hit that will disable an opponent.

If you are asking for medical reasons, you shouldn't be hitting someone.
