Last night, I developed this strange chest pain. It doesn't feel like pressure or squeezing. I'm not feeling any numbness or pain in anypart of my arms or legs.
It's more of a burning sensation in my breastbone area. My back also hurts in between my shoulder blades.
I don't know if it's heartburn at all. I took antacids, and it didn't really help.
When i stretch my arms straight up, thats when it begins to hurt.
I'm not short of breath or anything.
It's just uncomfortable and it makes sleeping hard for me.
Any ideas?

It's hard to get to a doctor when you're in college, and you don't have a car.

also, when I relax, it goes away.

I also forgot, I'm 18 years old. I am in college. I'm a freshman too.
Nobody has a history of heart disease in my family, other than my grandpa, through my grandmother's second marraige.
Dad has high blood pressure due to a bad diet.

I work out 5 times a day and eat relatively well. (everyone has slip up days)

I found out the problem finally.
It wasn't heartburn or a heart attack, but it was costochondritis.
Nothing serious at all!
Doc said to use a heating pad and anti-inflamatory medication

If the antacids really didn't help, then chances are it IS NOT heartburn. Your local emergency room HAS to see you, whether you can pay them or not, and an ambulance will take you to them, so the car is not really an issue. It could be any number of things, and if you're a normal college-age student, chances are it's not something cardiac in nature, but it is SO MUCH BETTER to be safe than sorry.

You probably have acid reflux. You need to try taking some pepcid or ranitidine. It could also be a strained muscle. Sometimes we can get muscles cramps and aches just by sleeping the wrong way. Another possibility is anxiety. You mention you are a college student. Are you under alot of stress with studies right now?
As far as a Heart attack goes. Do a risk assessment. Are there any family history of Heart conditions in your family? Do you have high blood pressure? How are your eating habits? If all this seems to be normal then the likeliness of a heart attack is pretty slim. Good Luck and feel better soon.

I think Jack P has it right. But you also have heart attack symptoms.

You sound like a young person. But!! You never know.

You need to see a Doc anyways. Heartburn and indigestion were cured about 20 years ago with powerfull meds (pantaloc is one of them)
These are prescription meds. Not those old fashioned and ineffective drug store antacids.

Soundslike you have pulled something.. Try to use it as little as possible, take some tylenol and put a heating pad on the area for about 20 minutes.

i have pulled muscle in the same area and boy does it hurt! It is the breast plate. The breast plate has small tendants holding it together and you can pull them just by reaching for a glass..
