I'll be 50 this year, and I'm pretty sure that anything you decide to bake will be well appreciated! When I was growing up my Mother used to make Jam Bars using her own Strawberry or Grape Preserves. Apples were also plentiful! She made a lot of homemade breads, rolls, cakes and pies. Money was tight back then, so no fancy meals from what I can remember......In regards to the Apple Cake; she did not use the chocolate chips in the recipe. These are her recipes:
JAM BARS:
1 1/2 cups sifted flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1 egg
3/4 cup jam or preserves
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
Sift together flour and baking powder in a small bowl and set aside. In a large bowl cream butter, sugar and almond extract. Beat in egg thoroughly. Add sifted dry ingredients to butter mixture and stir to blend. Spread a little less than half the dough into a greased baking pan
(about 11 x 7 x 2 in.) In a small bowl, mix jam with cinnamon and ground cloves. Spread over dough. Drop remaining dough in blobs over jam; spread carefully with small spatula. Bake in hot oven at 400 degrees for about 20 minutes. Put on rack to cool; cut into squares.
OLD FASHIONED APPLE CAKE:
1 cup sugar
1 cup oil
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
3 cups sliced apples
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup chocolate chips (optional)
In a large bowl, mix together sugar, oil, eggs and vanilla. Blend thoroughly. Sift together the flour, salt, baking soda and cinnamon. Stir in the dry ingredients. Fold in apples, walnuts and chocolate chips. Pour into the prepared 9 x 13-inch pan and spread evenly. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour. Cool on cake rack.

I'll give you a couple if you promise that the next time you ask a question, you will hit the "check spelling" button. Thank you!
Deviled eggs (they've been around forever)
Hard boil your eggs by putting raw eggs in a saucepan and covering with cold water. Put on medium heat. When the water starts to boil, turn down the heat and cook for 10 minutes. Cool eggs under cold running water. Peel when cooled.
Cut eggs in half and put yolks in a bowl and whites on a nice plate. Mash the yolks. Add a little at a time, because it depends on how many eggs you did: mustard/pickle relish and mayonnaise. Keep stirring it in until mixture is like soft butter. Spoon into egg white halves. Sprinkle with paprika if desired. Cover and refrigerate.
Combination Salad (another oldie)
1 head of iceberg lettuce, cored, rinsed, and drained. Wrap in a clean dishtowel and put in the fridge until ready to use.
Tear up lettuce into bite size pieces.
cut up fresh tomatoes
chopped red or white onion
salt and freshly ground black pepper
Add enough mayonnaise to this to make a good dressing. Pour over lettuce. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
This would all go well with a good old fashioned meat loaf and mashed potatoes. Also, a nice green veggie, like broccoli or English peas. And maybe some corn on the cob. Wow, I'm getting hungry. Gotta go! Have fun!
Oh! I forgot about dessert. This is the easiest.
Lemon Icebox Pie
1 graham cracker pie crust
1 can Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milk
1/2 cup lemon juice
Cool Whip or canned Redi Whip
Mix lemon juice into Eagle Brand. This will take a lot of stirring but will come together. Pour into pie crust. Refrigerate. Before serving, spread with Cool Whip or decorate with canned Redi Whip. Yum-o!

Bread Pudding...and easy to make.
2 cups bread broken up
2 cups of milk (scalded)
1/3 cup sugar
1 egg well beaten
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp vanilla
2 tbsp butter or margine
sprinkle raisins in, how many you want
Bake at 350 in greased baking dish for 1 hour. The dish should be covered part of the time.
If you want to dress it up a bit a dollop of whipped cream is nice on top.

One of the most comforting things I ate as a child was fried chicken. My mom always used eggs with worcestershire sauce added for her dredge, and then bisquick with salt and pepper for breader. We would eat it cold on Sunday afternoon with deviled eggs, tomato and cucumber salad with sliced onions in cider vinegar, homemade biscuits, and German chocolate cake for dessert. Just thinking about it makes me hungry. :)
