What difference would it make? Kids as young as fourteen and probably younger are finding ways to get drunk as it is.

Why? So some guy can get a young girl helpless and abuse her? That is the method used most often in America today by waaay to many immature selfish boys..so lowering the age limit only enlarges the pool of ladies that guys like this can take advantage of legally. Most girls never report these types of abusive situations but the fact is they would never happen if the younf ladies were not in bars, out late and getting high ... the best way to Be safe is to stay in control of your faculties. That said I think legislators should lower the age for dinner wines perhaps but I know I do not drink and it seems such a waste of time. Still I respect everyones free agency.... just be safe!

I agree.

1. If you are old enough to fight in a war and die, you are old enough to drink.

2. I was raised in Colorado. The drinking age there was 18 for 3.2% beer and for all other alcohol 6.0% Beer, Hard Liquor, and wines was 21. A gradual increase and hopefully learning how to drink responsibly.

Then those damn Madd Mothers Against Drunk Drivers screwed it up for everyone. Forced the Congress to put that condition onto the Fed. Highway Funds. Any state can change this, but they would have to loose the cash to do it. Sad that money talks so loud.

I hate drunk drivers. My brother was 18 and he was drinking and driving in the snow and ice. Went off and got himself killed. That was such a horrible time in life. Anyway, you would think with his 4.0 GPA he would have been smart enough to know better. But NO!

I believe that if 18 year olds can be taught to drink responsiblely then over the years things will get better.

No government wants to completely stop drunk driving or alcohol or cigarettes. Too much tax revenue and money from fines to give it up.

It won't make a difference. People will find a way to get what they want no matter what. Right now I am 20 and I have gone to bars for some years now and it's not even because I look older but it is just out there. Lowering the age will not make a difference and if it does it will probably be more harmful.

It wont change, since Americans in general want less and less responsibility for their own actions. Lowering the age to drink would just allow the parents to blame and eventually try to sue that their kid died in a alcohol involved accident. It comes down to parenting. My mom gave me alcohol early at 16 or so. Similar to Europe, I was also taught respect it its effect on your body and long term harm. No matter how drunk I was or where I was during a party in High School I could call my mom for a ride and she wouldnt ask me any questions, ever! It comes down to good parenting...its not the governments problem.

30 years old now, college educated, work a stable professional career, never been to jail, never had a DUI and still drink. I will raise my kids with alcohol the same way my mom did with me.

Well look at other countries where drinking isn't as scandalous. Most of them have no problems with alcholism, underage drinking, or drunk driving because it is seen as a socially acceptable thing. Here to younger people it is seen as a way to rebel rather than just a way of life. I mean yes, kids in those countries probably are drinking at a younger age, but which is the greater evil.... drinking young with supervision or drinking young to get wasted?

I believe if you're old enough to enlist for the armed forces and vote, you should be able to buy a beer. However, laws changed in the late 80's to 21 because otherwise states wouldn't get highway funds. Seriously, upping the drinking age was a rider on the bill for the funds.

The 'eighteen to enlist eighteen to drink' argument is nonsense. All those in the armed forces volunteered for it. There hasn't been a draft since before all you kids were born. Get over it.

I think that they should raise the legal drinking age, but no matter what we do if kids want to drink they will find a way.

Bush was elected to office twice. I think the US should be dry for a few generations as it's obviously not high enough.

Doesnt' matter, if a kid wants to drink that kid is gonna drink. I was drinking since 13, my daddy would buy me Jack and stuff. It was cool. My girlfriends and I would also break into liquer stores at night and steal some booze. We'd drink ourselves silly and fool around. It was so hott!@
