some choose to not get places out in town, they live on the ship full time. Officers on Sea duty are not authorized to live in the Bachelor's Officer's Quarters on base.

If they have a place out in town, mots do indeed keep them. they have to have someplace to store their stuff while deployed. They just have friends stop by and pick up the mail and mow the lawn if needed, although most opt to get a small apartment. Or, they may get roommates from dfifferent commands so that there is usually one person at home.

single officers generally live on the ship or in an apartment as they dont qualify for base housing. they have to pay all their bills for the time they are gone or give up the unit

I would imagine so. You're stationed at the base and deploy to the ship, not the other way around.
