i came back out to my car after doing some shopping and a couple was standing around my car looking suspicious. when i finally got there, they explained that they had hit my car while parking into the space next to mine. it was very late and only a few cars in the parking lot, with TONS of free parking spaces, and for some reason this woman tried to stick her big ol' car next to mine. well she FAILED. anyway, i inspected the bumper, and while it was a pretty good scrape it was not enough that the police would've written a report for if i had called them. i asked for their names and their insurance information, and they refused, instead insisting that we just call the police. i wasn't going to wait around for any police, i just wanted to go the hell home. i decided to spare them the police or a claim on their insurance (if they even had it, ha-ha...), but before i left, i told them basically to do the world a f***ing favor and take a driving lesson. was i too mean?

They should have provided you without question their drivers license, car registration, and proof of insurance card. That's the law--at least here in California. Plus they admitted to hitting your car.
If you had a cell phone with a camera, and decent lighting, I would have taken a picture, as best I could. A disposable camera with flash is always the best to keep in your glove box.
If you had called the police, since it was a non-emergency, they would have taken a couple of hours most likely, to arrive at the scene.
You lost your temper, and rightfully so. They got lucky that all they got were a few foul words.
Sometimes by the way, insurance companies, as crooked as they can be at times, may have somehow determined you both to be at fault, and then that would have left you more frustrated.
I've been down that road before. I believe that what goes around... comes around...in this case..."what drives around...comes around..."

That's a little mean, but if they woudn't give you their insurance information, then they were being mean, too. Next time, call the police if you can't get insurance info. That way, the police will take care of it. When the cops get involved, it's amazing how cooperative people can get. Honestly, I'd be hard pressed to act any differently than you. I've been known to "lose it" for a lot less!

The police will not come to a private parking lot unless there is an injury, and they probably knew it. You may have been wise to get their plate number, since they refused to give you insurance info. this way you could at least identified them to bring them to small claims court. It is very irritating when people decide to park next to you when they have so many other options. I try to park out away from the masses and take the extra walk, but it never fails, when I come out, I am surrounded.

They were well within their rights to suggest calling the police. If they didn't have insurance I doubt they would have suggested it in the first place. Most people these days don't stick around when they've hit someone's vehicle.

Well first of all, you both broke the law. The accident needed to be reported....did it occur to you that they didn't have any insurance which is why the failed to provide you with their information? You let them get away so that they could damage someone else's car and not pay for it. Way to go!

You should have at least taken down their license plate # and reported it to your insurance.

Too mean? No. Ignorant? Yes.

It was mean. They should have given you the insurance information. I'm surprised they didn't actually, because they were honest enough to wait around.

Yes that was to mean. Not to mention not that bright either. they could claim that you hit them now. By not filing a police report you opened the door for them.

No, I would have done the same thing. I don't know why they'd rather you call police instead of just giving you the insurance info.

I don't know if you're a nice guy for not holding them responsible for the damage or if you're a jerk for cursing them out.
