I'm not being deployed, just curious because if I were in Iraq with no entertainment i'm sure i'd be extremely bored. Are Video/regular Ipods allowed or any personal portable electronics?

You can bring pretty much anything you want, as long as you can carry it in your alloted baggage. Just remember, there is a very high likelyhood that it can get damaged. I ruined a xbox 360 on this last deployment. I had a laptop, 360, IPOD, and DS.

Oh, and no alcohol or anything that would offend a muslim =P

Two reasons: The violence has begun to escalate in Iraq again, and if we leave the troops then in a few months the whole myth of the 'surge's success'' will come tumbling down. There is a good possibility of martial law in the US. The republicans hate losing and may try to commandeer the military to enforce a very ugly police state. There was a time when I would have thought this unthinkable... but I have learned that there is nothing more terrifying than a desperate republican.

I took my MP3 player, a portable DVD player, DVDs, I had access to a computer and a friends PlayStation and bought books at the PX. There are plenty of things to keep you occupied when not on duty.

When I got deployed I brought only what I needed. If I wanted anything else, I would just get it in country. That's my advice.

No porn, no booze, no pork products. They have game consoles, tv's, dvd players, computers, whatever they want to spend money on to risk getting wrecked with sand.

My husband took his iPod, laptop, DVD's, digital camera, Playstation games. His mom sent him books (which he sent to me because he doesn't read... I think). He also took tons of pictures with him... of me!
