I play with her and she will spontanously jump on my lap, but she always falls asleep in my roommate's lap. I want her to sleep with me, but she'll only come in for a few minutes and then she goes out to the living room. How do you know if your cat likes you...should they always want to spend time with you? (I've only ever had dogs...this is my first cat, and I love her so much already, and I want her to feel the same!)

If yourdog likes,he want to be with you most of the time.

But a cat is different. He is more independent, and I could swear that your roommate has a more comfortable lap.

Put a pillow in you lap, and see the difference.

However, don't be jealous !!! Let the cat choose for herself.

At last, there are cats that don't like cigarret smoke. Do you smoke ?

Cats are not at all like dogs. They love you and on there terms.
YOU MAY SEEM TO YOUR KITTY AS A PLAYMATE and your roommate is the alternative to play...to rest. Cats love you but unlike dogs who will great you even when youhave only left there sightto go into a closet or something...cats sometimes like to be alone. They will still love you...sometimes they want to be held sometimes they will fight you like crazy. Sometimes one of our cats may seem to just love my partner other times my parner gets the ignoring. I have seven of them and had grown up with dogs. They are so different. Cats are basically useless freeloaders that think Humans are warmpieces of furniture,,,,and I Love them so.

Let the kitten adjust. You might be trying a bit too hard. Most cats don't like to be forced to do anything. Let the kitten come to you, every cat I have owned love nothing more than sleeping with me if they could. Patience. Every cat has their personality and this cat is still adjusting.

She will love you. Just make sure that you are the one who gives her the food and that you do play with her. Cats are not like dogs in that they want your attention as a rule when they want your attention. She also may see you as the good time, playing parent and your room mate as the cozy snuggle up parent. Just try to do both with her. As long as you feed her she will figure out that you are the owner. Also, make sure that you don't move too fast, don't rub the belly as some cats hate that and don't ever make her stay with you when she wants to go somewhere. Have fun and enjoy.

I think that your kitten will warm up to you over time. Right now the cat is just getting used to you and your house and I am sure soon she will seek you out to spend time with you. Let the cat approach you and in no time she will be your little baby. Good luck

Give her time; she will love you. Be the one who feeds her, gives her treats, plays with her. When my cat was a kitten, she was wild and raced around my apartment as if she was crazy (my first cat, too, after dogs); she calmed down after awhile and is a wonderful companion, sleeps on my bed. She's very intelligent, opens closet and cupboard doors and knows her name, when we are going to eat and have treats. She's clean and neat, and I love her so much. She has a mind of her own, though, and does what she wants. Cats are not so eager to please as dogs are! Good luck!

Be very patient, talk softly (is your roommate more quiet?) And be the one to feed her. Some cats take a lot of time to get close to you. My female cat (now 12 years old) wasn't close to me for about the first five years I had her. Some stay aloof, it's their job to do that.

Cats chose people not people chose cats. Possibly there is something in your room not to kitty's liking. Cats new to surroundings feel better in open spaces, your room may see confining to her. Give her time and keep playing with her in your room during the day.

No, most cats are somewhat independent and they don't always like to spend time with you. I'm sure that your kitten will like you.

It will just take her a while to get used to you. Cats are like women. They don't like to be rushed, so just take your time. Feed her.

Also you might try getting a brush to brush her with. Cats love to be gently brushed and they will bond with you if you brush their fur, like mother cats do when they lick their kittens.
