In nine American states, there are laws on the book preventing atheists from being politicians. George Bush Sr. once said that atheists shouldn't be considered citizens. Every time there is an election, there is enormous thundering from the religious right that America is a "Christian nation." You have tried to force Creationism in our schools, and have treated multiculturalism as an intrusion upon your divinely-mandated hegemony. You keep cures for cancer, Alzheimer's, and quadriplegia _ILLEGAL_ under the guise of 'protecting' lifeless human embryos.
You have taught hundreds of generations to hate their own lives and to act as though they are dirty, sinful machinations of a capricious war god who are so rotten to the core that, without your pretendo-friendo Jesus, they will rot for all eternity in a lake of fire.
If you think that atheists are cruel, I ask you when was the last time an atheist bombed an abortion clinic, expelled a gay child from his household, or tried to mandate the teaching of atheism in a public school.
We are not cruel. We are merely fulfilling our end of the Golden Rule. We are confident because your religion is dying and America is secularizing almost as fast as Europe is. You have inflicted your mental plague upon the human race for too long, and people are waking up and realize that hey, maybe we WEREN'T made from dust. Maybe gay marriage ISN'T evil. Maybe dinosaurs DID exist. So on... ad nauseum.

"To Atheists, why are you so cruel to Christians?" Some are, while others are presenting facts, logical arguments, or philosophical standpoints.
"And in many cases it keeps us on a straight and narrow path of morality." So do the laws of your town/state/country. Claiming that the bible is the only reason that you aren't out killing and stealing is scary, since the only evidence that the bible is the word of god, is the bible.
"If we are wrong we live a more fulfilled life." I respectfully disagree. Many of the things prohibited in the bible lead to physical or mental gratification, and I feel are just as important to a balance between material and spiritual fulfillment.
"If we are right then we enter into heaven when we die." If we are right...? That's a cop-out for faith. According to the bible, god sees man's heart. If one believes just in case its right, then god knows that its not done whole heartedly, and you're in the same spot as an atheist (meaning "going to hell").
"You hurt us when you put us down. Why do you do this?" Taking the trolls out of the equation here, what I do is try to make you (christians as a whole) think. I tend to answer questions with facts, or logical conclusions (using the bible in some cases, scientific findings in others). If that hurts you, sorry, but this may not be the appropriate forum for you to be participating in.

I am an atheist and do do the same to my fellow Christians. I have many Christian friends. I hear them all the time say stuff like, I'm worried about this or that, guess I just got to leave it in Gods hands. I don't give two shits if that's what they do. If believing ing a god is what makes them feel better or keeps them in line, fine. I just don't need that. I am not mean to Christians, but I have had Christians be mean to me when they have found out I've been an Atheist. How do they find this out. They asked ME what religion I was so I told them. Then they berate you with questions. I live and let live. So when you get all your brethren leaving me alone, I'll work on all my brethren leaving you alone. Remember, assholes come in all faiths.

Well, that's a rather generalized statement. Not all atheists put Christians down. You may not put atheists down, but other Christians do. Also, there are atheists that live on the straight and narrow path. Atheists can also live a fulfilled life. Just because atheists don't believe in God does not mean that they are all criminals and don't help others out. Many philanthropists are atheists and live a very fulfilling life. Kudos for being kind to others with different beliefs, but you shouldn't generalize.

Not all Athiests mock and abuse Christians just the same as not all Christians mock and abuse Athiests. The fact is that some do on both sides and these are often the ones who are most outspoken. In both cases tolerance should be practiced in place of judgement.
To you I say that there is nothing any person in this world can say to take away the faith you have and the love of God you know - find joy in that and the barbs of those who would ridicule your beliefs will have no sting in the light of God's all surpasing grace.

That's amazing. We stay on the straight and narrow path without being threatened with eternal torture. Does that make us more moral, in general?
You try to hurt us when you put us down. I wonder in particular about the gleeful way that Xians tell us we're going to hell. We don't believe in hell, but the idea that anyone would enjoy the idea of us being tortured for eternity is just distasteful. And many of you do it. Perhaps not you in particular, but I don't know for sure. And not all of you, but many. As I'm sure you don't mean to imply that ALL atheists are cruel and "persecute" Xians.
I can also disagree and be respectful. If the other person was respectful, and more often than not I find that isn't the case. You get what you put out there. So if "nonbelievers" are cruel to xians, you have to wonder just how cruel the xians were to those "nonbelievers" first.

I have no problem with Christians and I try to treat every person with the respect that they deserve. What you have to realize is that there are Christians that do not show respect for other view points as well a Atheists that do the same. There is no hard evidence that proves or disproves any theory and that is why it is important to stay open minded on both sides of the argument!

I am not personaly cruel to christians. I feel that if you want to believe in ANTYHING go ahead in fact if your believing makes you a person that is productive to ALL, than i am glad for you. but the minute you push your religious belief on society at large, you have stepped into open territory and are under the microscope. If you are going to controll government policy you are going to have to put away the fairy tailes. There is no room for the supernatural in governing the people. I dont feel it is rude to tell christians the truth. just the same way that they have no problem trying to save my soul, and make no bones about it, they always do! everytime i come into contact with a fundie. it is their mission in life. i think the rude scale is tipped in the christian direction quite a lot.

Why have Christians historically been so cruel to those who have different ideas from their own? Why has there been so much murder, torture, and humiliation done in the name of God, whose supposed to be fair and love all his children? Why do people need to be reminded that they are sinners and be taught morality, when they should know it in their hearts already? Why can't Christians just keep to their straight and narrow road and not try to grab along everyone that's walking on the sidewalk in another direction? Why is your way the only way?

Even though I am an atheist, I would die for your right to practice religion. I do not prosletyze other humans in person but this is a question and answer forum where people from different walks of life share their perspectives. If a Christian asks why atheists don't believe in God, what are we supposed to say? We respond with a mixture of science, reason, humor and frustration.
