Stop giving him water! He's not going to wither from dehydration from a couple hours of vomiting. Forcing fluids on him is making him throw up more, so stop it.
Does he have a fever? Did he hit his head then start vomiting? Has anyone if the family been ill and possibly passed it on to him?
Do you have plain childrens liquid Benadryl? It's an anti-emetic, which means it makes the barfing stop. For a 2.5 year old it's perfectly safe, so go get some. Give him half the normal dose since he's 2.5 years old. There are also little strips of Benadryl that melt on the tongue that are less likely to make him vomit. If you want to give him half a dose of a strip, use clean dry scissors to cut it in half. It will make him stop vomiting and make him drowsy so he can rest.
If he vomits for more than 24 hours without taking in any fluids, call your pediatrician. A trip to the ER tonight seems premature.
I'm the mother of an A #1 projectile vomiter with physicians in the family. The vomiting stage for him was from 2 to 3years, they're more prone to the stomach bugs then.
Try to sooth him, he can tell if you're freaked out and it'll just scare him. Get the bucket ready and tell him he's gonna be okay. My son always wanted to take a bath afterwards since it was yucky, so you might ask him if he wants to clean up in the bath.
Best of luck to you all and I hope he feels better and gets some rest. I hope you ALL get some rest.

Please do not listen to the other people that said not to take him. My son was vomiting and would not keep anything down, pedialyte, gatorade, water, etc. And he is 16 months old. They need to run tests so they can make sure that he doesn't have something serious. It turned out that my son had pneumonia and needed a prescription. He was also very dehydrated and they kept him on an IV of that saline stuff and antibiotics for the same time before they let him go home. You also want to check his temp first though. My son was burning up and his skin was becoming red from the heat of his fever because he was so dehydrated. Please do not hesitate to take him to the Children's hospital.

As long as your little guy continues to urinate and his eyes don't look sunken in and his mouth isn't terribly dry he is fine. The biggest concern with vomiting is dehydration. I am a big fan of the Pedialyte Popsicles, you can break one in half and put it in a sippy cup. It will melt slowly, your son can only get a little sip and that is what you want. Be careful with plain water, you don't want to give too much of that. Another thing to watch for is if he is throwing up anything that looks like coffee grounds or green bile. If that is happening you will want to seek medical attention. In the meantime it really sucks but there is no point in hauling him out to the ER when he feels bad and might barf all over your car!

CALL YOUR CHILD'S PHYSICIAN, THERE SHOULD BE A NURSE ON CALL. MY DAUGHTER WAS VOMITING LAST
WEEK AND I CALL AND SPOKE TO A NURSE TO GET INFO.
SHE TOO HAD VOMIT AT LEAST 3 OR MORE TIMES. THE
NURSE SAID AS LONG AS SHE HAD NO FEVER. THEN JUST
TO KEEP AN EYE AND MAKE SURE SHE DRINKS AT LEAST
A COUPLE OF OUNCES OF LIQUID, SO SHE WON'T GET
DEHYDRATED. ALSO TO MONITOR HOW MANY TIME SHE
WOULD URINATE ,SO I WOULD KNOW IF SHE IS GETTING
DEHYDRATED. THAT IS WHERE THE OUNCE OF LIQUID
COMES IN, SO YOUR SON WILL KEEP SOME LIQUID IN HIS STOMACH AND HE CAN STAY HYDRATED. AS YOU KNOW
SINCE HE IS VOMITING, YOU WANT TO KNOW IF HE CAN
HANDLE THE LIQUID INTAKE, SO THAT IS WHY YOU ARE
GOING TO GIVE HIM THE OUNCE BY EVERY 15 MINUTES.
WHICH SHOULD KEEP HIM HYDRATED. IF YOU FEEL YOU
WANT TO TAKE HIM IN THEN DO SO RIGHT AWAY ESPECIALLY IF HE RUNNING FEVER. JUST KEEP AN EYE
ON HIM. FLAT 7/UP WORKS GOOD OR FLAT SPRITE, IT
SETTLES THE STOMACH. NOW I DID THIS FOR MY DAUGHTER AND SHE FELT BETTER A FEW HOURS LATER,,
TRY IT FOR YOUR SON.

The age is the problem here.
He probably has the flu.(poor kid!)
I would suggest letting him get it all out of him then letting him sleep.
Dont force water it will upset his stomach!
I would suggest some "Coke"--i know it sounds crazy but "coke syrup" is actually a medicine and it can help settle his stomach.
Even medicine probably wont help because the taste will most likely make him vomit again.
if he gets to have symptoms of dehydration its best to take him in!
he could get really sick!
Hes in my prayers!

No need.
Keep trying to rehydrate him, with tiny amounts of water every hour or two.
Sometimes Jell-o works better than water: a spoonful every hour until he can keep something down.
And you don't have to do Pedialyte (which tastes horrible, and lots of kids won't drink it). Regular water, or diluted Gatorade, will do the trick.
If he's still vomiting in the morning, call the pediatrician.
There's nothing different, really, they can do for him in the ER except IV fluids. So google "dehydration" and keep an eye out for those symptoms. Short of being severely dehydrated, your little guy will probably be more comfortable at home, and these things usually resolve themselves in 12-24 hours.

Yeah, go to the hospital. If he can't keep his fluids down he will get dehydrated which is dangerous in little kids. I just spent all afternoon in the hospital with my son because he's had the flu that's been going around and couldn't keep anything down either. Now that he's had the fluids he's much better. Best to go in.

He will probably be fine. Encourage water in very small sips and spread the sips out over a long period of time. He's probably just got the stomach flu. The won't do much at the hospital unless he's very dehydrated. I doubt he's at that point yet. Just encourage fluid and maybe some gingerale to settle his stomach. Just remember to give it in very small sips, hopefully he won't bring it up. If you suspect that he's getting dehydrated then take him to the hospital.

He probably has the stomach flu. Make sure he drinks plenty of water even though he throws it up so he doesn't get dehydrated. I suggest you take him to the doctor first thing tomorrow morning since it could be more serious and require medical attention.
