I have XP professional sp2 on my laptop. there are three partitions on my hard disc C,D and E. windows is installed in C. D is NTFS and E is FAT32 type . how can i install Ubuntu along with XP . Such that i can have both OS on my system ?

You first need to burn Linux on to a disc and make it bootable. It sounds like you are one of those people who are, unfortunately, computer illiterate. The instructions on this site should help:

Try "Virtual PC" with Linux installation. That way you could use a portion of your hard drive (a file) to simulate that you have "another fake PC

Google "Virtual PC". Virtual PC is a free software from Microsoft. Not only could you install Linux, you could also install another copy of Windows Server in your XP system. The only thing you need is MORE Memory, plus maybe a Core 2 Duo processor with "Virtualization" technology.

Yes, you can. It will be called a "dual-boot". You will want to make a partition for the Linux part to use, then install Linux onto that partition. It may install GRUB or LILO bootloader which is fine.

first install win xp drive c and after install linux in drive d.
