Monosodium Glutamate. A flavor enhancer and additive. Also known in the restaurant industry as the " Chinese Salt". This stuff could make dog pooh taste like filet mignon. A copy/paste from the link below explains why too much is bad for you..

Because MSG is absorbed very quickly (unlike glutamic acid-containing proteins in foods), MSG could spike blood plasma levels of glutamate. Glutamic acid is in a class of chemicals known as excitotoxins, high levels of which have been shown in animal studies to cause damage to areas of the brain unprotected by the blood brain barrier and that a variety of chronic diseases can arise out of this neurotoxicity.

MSG is monosodium glutemate. It's a flavour enhancer used a lot in Chinese food, but if you read the ingredients of a lot of processed/packaged food you'll find it there too. It's a chemical and that's the only reason that I know why it's bad for you. Sadly, it does actually work to bring out the flavours of food (called "Accent" in the grocery stores)

Some people are apparently allergic to it. If you're not, the only negative thing is that it adds sodium to the food. If you don't care about salt/sodium, enjoy.
