The Book of Mormon quotes extensively from the King James Version of the Bible, with its Shakespearean English, which was already considered archaic in Joseph Smith’s day. It has troubled some readers that The Book of Mormon, this “most correct” of books, lifts at least 27,000 words directly from the Bible version that is purportedly full of errors and that Smith later undertook to revise.
Jehovah's witnesses only use the bible and have only one wife.

It is funny that 'cult' is used to describe both. cult comes from a Roman word that describes anything branching off from the Catholic Church. (it is used in a derogatory term) The meaning has changed even more since then....

Anyway, People compare Mormons and JWs for many reasons. They both preach door to door. They both try to practice what they preach as well. Such as being Chaste and dressing modestly. Also, they both believe that it is necessary to attend the regular meetings/studies. other churches (catholic) don't stress many of those. Both JWs and mormons believe it is how you act, not how you believe or feel that is important. a lot of churches teach that if you believe, you will be saved. JWs and Mormons teach it isn't enough just to believe, but also practice those beliefs.
Thus, although there are different beliefs of the JWs and mormons, they both are proactive in their faith. They have more similarities than differences (to those that do not study the doctrines)

p.s. mormons also only have 1 wife.

Both religions are basically cults that take the Bible and its intents and strangely pervert its meanings and take it to such extremes that it just doesn't make any sense. For example, the Book of Mormon is just Joseph Smith plagiarizing the Bible. Most of the stories that Smith wrote about in the Book of Mormon are taken directly from the Bible and paraphrased. They also believe that there are seven layers of heaven, and that when we die, we become gods, remaining sexually active. The offspring that these gods produce are called "spirit babies", and enter the body when the baby cries after birth. A little weird.

Jehovah's Witnesses are a little weird. They, like Mormons, believe that Jesus was not fully God at the time of his birth, but rather became God after he died. That is the biggest fallacy of these religions. Jehovah's Witnesses also don't celebrate any holidays whatsoever. The Bible, if they follow the true Bible, doesn't say anything at all about not celebrating holidays. If anything, the Bible strongly encourages it.

Another person that needs to get the facts straight before anything is stated. Mormons use the King James Bible, JWs use there own personal translation ( a translation that uses - for some verses, seen it), and the "Watchtower" among other church writings. Mormon's have only one wife. Fundamentalists, not associated with the main church still practice polygamy, and they tend to stay together in their own community.

they are confused sometimes because of the missionaries they both use and some Bible text is taken literally in both; although the veiws differ.

Jehovah's Witnesses don't use just the Bible. The Bible they use is a twisted translation of a perverted manuscript.
The "translators" of the NWT didn't have enough knowledge of the original languages to do this.
The principles they used for translation were inconsistent at best and unscholarly in a more realistic sense. Not all the times LORD appears in the NT has it been changed to Jehovah. . One in particular is 1 Peter 3:15. In a NWT study Bible I have, the footnote at the bottom of the page says that it should be translated as Jehovah.

I don`t know. But does it matter if a church worships God an believes in Christ, does it matter if some of their views are different if there still headed for the same place?I have talked with a Jehovah preacher for an hour or more discribing my beliefs and his beliefs and we didn`t agree on certain things.I wouldn`t be comfortable worshipping in a church that I didn`t see eye to eye on at least most things but that doesn`t mean their not going to be in Heaven and that God loves them or me any less.We are still children of God and should show respect and love for one another.

I think that it's because they are largely still seen as "cults" by many.

I'm not saying that I feel this way but if you watch some the responses on here from time to time, you will see what I mean.

Of course they are not the same. Mormons also celebrate holidays and believe in a strong education.

The JW's in my area do not believe in educating women...again, not to generalize. It's just that the two religions seem to have nothing in common.

Both religions are a little strange in my opinion but then again, I'm more Gnostic in my beliefs than anything. Generally speaking I don't care what either group does as long as they stay off my doorstep.

Revelation, written by John, tells us that ANY scrolls added to or taken away from the original scriptures are not real. It also says that persons adding to or taking away from the original text shall have all of the plagues from the book of revelation given to them. So I wouldn't worry about the LDS church, they have enough burdening them.

The reason is not in their theocracy or dogma but in the fact that they both do not follow standard Christian doctrine and are almost cult like. I read a book on cults and they meet almost all the criteria. (Don't think they are bad people). So I think that is why they are compared. Seventh Day Adventist are almost there too. Like they meet 5 of the seven criteria and Jehovahs Witnessess and Mormons meet like 6 of the seven. So I think that is probably why.

Jehovah's Witnesses only use THEIR version of the Bible, one which has been highly criticized by most (if not all) serious religion scholars and is at times at odds with the original Hebrew and Greek. I have a copy; I, too, would not use it either.

I went to church a few times and had them visit like 12 times. was reading the book of Morman.and was about to be baptized into the Mormon church and I messed up and told them of some miracles that the spirit of god blessed myself and my family with.true ones. mighty ones. and the two elder young men. got up called me crazy and left.I called them.he said I was crazy and that only priests and higher ups in the church so to speak could do miracles like that.I was going to go back to Christianity . but am going to stay with Eckankar.I am glad they did that.Praise God.and the Spirit of God which does preform miracles. I have seen the workings of the spirit and it is not just for a few but is for everyone.I must admit that really hurt me.a lot.but I forgave them.
