I have had numerous electrical problems with this truck. Mechanically, it's solid. Electronics are another story. I probably will not buy another GMC as this was my first experience and it hasn't been positive.

My latest is the instrument cluster just quitting. I've read of cold weather being a possible cause. I'm not too sure about that, but have no other theories. Checked fuses, all good.

Have you had problems with a GMC 2500HD? I'm especially interested in tales of woe with 2003's, but any and all info is welcome.

We have a 2003 GMC 2500HD 6.1. We live in CA and recently went to Lake Tahoe for a couple of days with temps of 31 degrees ande below when our speedometer just went crazy. All of the other gauges work properly but the speedometer. Now I am being told that it will cost anywhere from $400-$1200 to have the instrument panel replaced. I searched the Internet and found a for that gave information regarding a Civil Action Lawsuit against GMC for this same problem. I have included the attorneys information below.

I have a 2000 Sierra HD and have only had 3 elec problems in 190,000 miles. Wiper control (delay time erratic), blower resistor pack (no #1 speed) and the 4x4 switch (intermittent communication loss). Which by the way, is all plastic on the outside, pretty hard to get a shock from that. Your problems seem unusual, but any tech worth a damn should be able to fix it. Sometimes these things are tricky and can take a while, juts have to think it through. And if you think jumping into a Ford will prevent you from having elec probs.....good luck. Don't forget the extended warranty.

Could be possible your truck has a failing fusible link.(eg;broken and still making contact some of the time)Check for good clean battery terminals, as in some trucks some components grounds are at the negative side of the battery.I have seen ground wires hooked to the positive post on the battery by mistake.Good Luck

Connect a scan tool to the vehicle-s Data Link Connector (DLC). Start the engine and allow the engine to idle. Depress the brake pedal firmly and maintain steady pressure on the pedal. Using the scan tool, begin the automated bleed procedure. Follow the instructions on the scan tool to complete the automated bleed procedure. Release the brake pedal between each test sequence. Turn the ignition OFF . Remove the scan tool from the vehicle. Fill the brake master cylinder reservoir to the maximum-fill level with DOT-3 brake fluid from a clean, sealed brake fluid container. Bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to Bleeding the Brake System procedure in the Brake Operating System section of this manual. With the ignition OFF , apply the brakes 3-5 times, or until the brake pedal becomes firm, in order to deplete the brake booster power reserve. Slowly depress and release the brake pedal. Observe the feel of the brake pedal. If the brake pedal feels spongy, repeat the automated bleeding procedure. If the brake pedal still feels spongy after repeating the automated bleeding procedure inspect the brake system for external leaks. Turn the ignition key ON but DO NOT start the engine; check to see if the brake system warning lamp remains illuminated. If the brake system warning lamp remains illuminated, DO NOT allow the vehicle to be driven until it is diagnosed and repaired. Drive the vehicle to exceed 8 mph (13 kph) to allow ABS initialization to occur. Observe brake pedal feel. If the brake pedal feels spongy, repeat the automated bleeding procedure until a firm brake pedal is obtained.

yes i have had numerous electrical glitches with my 2004 sierra 2500 . the head lights will blink on an off , the dash lights are on one day off the next , an the switch for the 4x4 mode shocks me when i have to use it. the dealer says it is a factory glitch. i am trading this in on a ford Friday.
