Modern literary theory (deconstructionism) suggests that two people can't even read a People magazine article the same way. If the Bible can be deconstructed, then isn't a literal interpretation of the Bible a pipedream?.

Undoubtedly. It is very unfortunate that there cannot be an intelligent communication on this web site about that very fact. As an atheist with an intense interest in the Bible I have read what many Catholic, Protestant, atheist and agnostic Bible scholars have had to say on this topic. Of course, it never filters down into the mainstream believers. The churches would not tolerate disseminating this information to its adherents since churches see scholarly work as a treat to dogma. And interestingly enough, the scholars of the 19th century discovered that the book of Mark was written first. Mathew and Luke actually used Mark as the source for their information about Christ. They, in turn, wrote their interpretation of who Christ was on the basis of their reading. Hence, literal interpretation became a pipe dream before the NT was even put together.

In my opinion, if it was even possible, it would be an event even God would consider a miracle.

I like the escapism in some of the responses - re-framing the intent you had for the word 'read' to be 'understanding' (which you clarified in your details I imagine to avoid exactly that sort of misinterpretation).

Points for an effective way to avoid thinking independently about the question and thus avoiding having to really answer it.

Why is quoting selectively from the Bible so easy and yet answering simple questions about its meaning so difficult?

Do you need to wait until Sunday (day too late for the Sabbath by the way) to consult your priest?

How about you just ask God right now if you don't want to write your own opinion?

No and that is why you either have to take it literally or symbolic. When you leave the bible open to interpretation you get a big pile of poo. No 2 persons will agree on every part of it. So what makes you so sure your way is the right way?

Yes but if you hold a bias you will read and understand it very unjust. If you hold faith in God and the trinity it states the Holy Ghost will help each individual understand in a way for x person to understand. I understand the point of people arguing scriptures but there is a pretty simple message to understand by the bible.

Yes. If people just read it with the attitude that it says what it means and means what it says. For example read mark 16:16 and tell me how you get that baptism is not essential for salvation. Also read Acts 2:38 and tell me that Peter did not mean what he said. He was answering the question of what must we do to be saved. the conflict is not with the bible, but with people trying to make it say what they want it to.

I agree, everyone interprets the Bible differently. The same goes for pictures, two people can look at a picture and describe it totally different.
