If you decide to see a psychiatrist in private practice, the session will cost anywhere between 50-300, depending on where you live and the length of the consultation (in dc, a 1 hour meeting with a psychiatrist will be about 200-250, for example -- more in new york city, less in atlanta, georgia). Fortunately, most people don't see a psychiatrist more than 1x a month, at most.
If you want to see a therapist, the best bet would be to see a counselor (counselors are less expensive than social workers, and social workers are less expensive than psychologists -- all, however, are trained to provide psychotherapy).
Many therapists work on a sliding fee basis, meaning that they charge what you can afford to pay. Some hospitals also have greatly reduced clinics mainly staffed by medical students or graduate students who are being supervised closely by practitioners.

Around here, that would be in Arizona, it can run from $40 to over $100 an hour for these services. I am sure there are hotlines and that sort of thing that you can call. You could also ask your regular doctor if he or she can recommend any free services. Do you think that these problems are medical or mental? Or I guess it could be both. But, good luck and I hope you feel better!!! :)

You can go to your regular doctor and tell him about the depression and anxiety. He can medicate you, if necessary--and he can get you approved for counseling/psychiatrist by calling or writing to your insurance company--(Making a referral is allowed by a family physician to a specialist--though the insurance would need to approve it).
Yes, if all else fails there are free and sliding scale clinics in every state. They are hard to find, so you would ask your doctor, call the emergency room, call the police department to find out where the clinics are.

Unless you're suffering from major depression or are suicidal seeing a psychiatrist probably isn't necessary, they are usually dealing with schizophrenics, bipolar ect.
Counseling is probably a better idea, you can get this for free! check out the book "mind over mood" its like the bible to cognitive behavioral therapy and it will get you on the right track, read and educate yourself on depression and anxiety this is very helpful, dont use the medication unless you really really need it, it may be more harmful than good at sometimes, make sure you talk with your doctor extensively, make sure he doesnt just brush you off and give you medication! goodluck and take care, keep up the fight

I think you should see a psychologist, because it's normal to sometimes get feelings about wanting to become stronger and better, but not the the point of perfection as it doesnt exist. You can be the best you can be and no more. Everyone is different. I say you should see a psychologist or counselor, because you need someone to tell you this and to inspire you to change as this isnt common, because I doubt you will get inspired from someone on the internet. Good luck!

I think sessions run around 75 bucks, but there are free counseling services. I don't know what state you are in, but they have many counselors that have a fee sliding scale (pay by your income)
Go to your state/county's web-site and look under mental heath for info.

most places have offices that will work on a sliding scale. you're best would be to call around, explain your situation and find out how much it would cost. depending on your income you may even be able to find services that are free. good luck in your quest, I know how hard it can be.
