Youv'e already received some good advice.

Just want to add this: Dont fuss too much everytime your son falls over. Unless it is clear he has hurt himself, don't make a big deal out of it, because if you make it a big deal, he will think it is a big deal and will react accordingly, like cry longer everytime he falls. Just say, "oops! no problem, now stand back up!" and let him pick himself up again.

Lastly, I don't worry too much about bumps here and there. By all means make your house safe, but don't worry too much everytime he gets a bump or bruise - it's all part of growing up. The benefits of this 'freedom of exploration' far outweighs whatever bumps she might get along the way, most of which you will never be able to avoid anyway however you child-proof your house, unless you tie him up in a straightjacket.

Now that he is walking climbing will be next. If you have a knife rack on the counter, push it back. Remember to turn your pot and pan handles in when cooking. Put a gate at the top and bottom of any stairs. Make sure that if your son is crawling on slippery surfaces he is either barefoot or in skid proof socks. Get him a pair of Robeez, they are wonderful. Usually they are cheeper in a store than online, well they were when I had a new walker anyway.
Hmmm thats all I can think of now. Good luck! The fun has just begun. :)

Yes , now he is effectively twice as tall and can reach twice as much. Now any fall will be from twice as high. Now, that table he could craw under he will try to stand up under. Be careful, but not paranoid. Children are ment to explore their environment. Be a good parent and let him. Use reasonable bounaries. He will get hurt, just make sure they are little "bo-bos" which can be taken care of with hugs and kisses. Enjoy this time with him for you will never get it again. I am a parent of two girls. One is 8 and the other is 20 months. The 8 year old still gets herself hurt from time to time. This weekend she happened to be walking around the house barefoot and found the one sliver of broken glass Christmas Ornimant which was missed. She got a cut on her foot, which was washed out and bandaged up and she was fine. Just mind your temper with such a young child. My 20 month old has been in the hospital since she was 15 1/2 months old because her babysitter did not mind her temper and shook her nearly to death. They are only little ones who need lots of love and understanging. May you and your son have a long and good life together. Enjoy these times now for they are limited and shorter than what you think.

When they first start walking they are very unstable. My daughter started walking a few months ago and is still unstable. No tables with sharp corners and buy him a pair of good shoes.

corners of your tables-get guards
stairs-gaits for bottom so he can't go up and for at the top so he can't go down
toilets-lid down always just the same keep bathroom door shut so he doesnt fall into the tub-you may think that is impossible...think again, my lil man did it.
This sounds so bad because I am a mom of a 2 yr old and soon to be mommy of a newborn, but I can't think of anything else as of yet!

don't leave anything on your coffee tables...like coffee, it will get pulled off
watch out for things that he can use to climb onto your couch
bathroom doors closed FOR SURE
Same with basement doors and stairs
Don't leave any screen doors open where he can push them open

and get ready for him to start pulling down any stuff you have laying around :)
good luck
the fun is just starting

Just make sure the doors stay closed and if you have stairs, guard them
