You'll mind the traffic real quick. Traffic is horrendous. The worst in the world. Bike will help there. Motorcycle's fine until it rains. It also makes you invisible to other motorists, especially if they're on a cell phone, so heads up at all times.
Housing is obscenely expensive. Third highest after NY & SF.
The city really drops the ball on infrastucture, potholes, graffiti, garbage everywhere. Great pockets of poverty, crime, gangs.
On the upside, there's plenty to see and do. But don't expect swimmin' pools and movie stars on every street corner.
Colleges in general are good. Just don't be one of those partying frat boys.
And just remember when it's 120 degrees in the shade in summer, it's the price we have to pay for not having snow.

Well, Los Angeles is huge. So it's pretty much divided into different regions.
West L.A.
North L.A. (The "Valley")
South L.A.
East L.A.
South Bay
Central L.A. (downtown)
Generally, the affluent areas are on the Westside (Beverly Hills, Malibu, Brentwood, Westwood, etc.) South and East L.A. are the poorer crime-ridden areas.
So what it's like living in L.A. can have a million answers. It depends on what part of L.A. But it's probably a fun experience if you come from a small town outside of CA. Maybe a bit of a culture shock though...

Where will you be staying? Everyone heads to venice beach but beware at night! Also staright or not the GAY MAFIA is a great comedy show. If in west Los Angeles check out New Japan on Sawtelle & Santa Monica Blvd. Thats some stuff to do. We had to move because of work but I think it is the best place on earth to live! From the center you have so much to do and see.

It is very expensive, especially if you are a college student. If I were you, I would visit and check it out before committing to living here. It is not like what you see on T.V...
