Maybe this persons death was to be used as a way to bring more people to God. No one can give a reason why a person is taken from this world except for God. And with the other man in prison, maybe God is giving him a chance to make everything right before he dies. I follow God because I love him, plain and simple. He let his son die on the cross just so that everyone would have the chance to enter into heaven. He blesses me everyday just by letting me live to see another day.
I'm not trying to change anyone's point of view on this subject. I just believe that there is a reason for everything and everyone, even the bad people, has a purpose with God.

Watch the film Bruce Almighty....God made Jim Carey talented and the directors inspired, to do the movie, so he could get "his" point across in a loving way....so the least you could do is to watch it. Really.....disease, mental disorders, death is all a part of life....if nothing bad ever happened we'd all be like zombies..living forever in food heaven (thats supposed to come after death! The body healsreplicates itself, so mistakes happen.
BUT lets play Pollyanna (be glad)....your friend lived to DO the work he did for a time (maybe even change lives) and to KNOW he would leave behind an heir and someone who loved him, also to have many that loved him (including yourself)......he could have died in childhood never knowing or doing anything as useful.
Maybe your friend died earlier to ALLOW his wife to grieve a little beforehand but concentrate fully on birthing the child instead of looking after him AND her new infant. If there is an afterlife...he would see them both and hold them in his spirit anyway.
Pedophiles and rapists have mental disorders usually caused by being sexually abused themselves or having parents that didnt do a very healthy job at raising their child. Society is a long way from perfection and always has been. That man never got better...just didnt have access to kids while in jail and perfected his lying technique.
Just as with homosexuallity, or heterosexuality......peoples sexual preferences cannot be changed by therapy or jailtime. Born with it or warped by childhood experiences....antisocial behaviour cannot be locked away forever...the law can only HOPE the perpertrator wants freedom more than lose control again. However once in jail people get institutionalised...used to living that way and it scares them to get out. What will get him back in? Reoffending....so hopefully that will add another 20 years and he'll be dead before he gets out.
God says that man has free will.........would you follow a God that said man is a slave and cannot find his own way? There is no proof of a God...so all you can do is be the best you can be ...to keep your OWN conscience clear, your mind easy and your life uncomplicated. Suffering, in different degrees, comes to us all at some point....so it makes sense to minimise it and teach others (your own kids) to do the same.

Many people ask how can their be a good God if evil exists in the world.
First things first. Jesus said (John 10:10) that "Satan comes to steal, kill and destroy, I have come that they may have life and life more abundantly."
Don't blame every evil thing on God. Know your enemy first. Know who it is that is fighting against you.
You question if there is a God. But yet you affirm there is such a thng as good and evil. If not, what Hitler did was just a biological response. I don't think so.
If there is such a thing as good and evil, there must be a moral law.
If there is such a thing as a moral law, there must be a moral law giver. No law ever created itself in any congress or parliament in the world.
Someone once said that "I'm not so much amazed at the evil in this world as I am the evil inside of me."
11 For I know the plans I have for you”—[this is]the Lord’s declaration—“plans for [your]welfare, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
Jer 29:11 (HCSB)
Doesn't sound evil to me.

Ask your friends wife when it is appropriate if her faith has been decreased by this experience. I bet it has increased.
"There is a time to be born and a time to die"
God has his reasons. What if for some reason his death brings someone to Christ? A nurse, a DR, a roommate, a son. God's ways are much better than our ways. Look at poor Job. Look at what he went through and how his struggles have helped SO many over these thousands of years. It didn't seem fair to him either. Sometimes I think of poor Job(to me he's not Job he's poor Job) in heaven after his death. Imagine God explaining things to him, 'Job, your life is an example to 874,000 people and they will draw strength from your story. Here's your rewards..."
And that evil man-he just has free will. Sad so very very sad. And no life isn't fair. But it wasn't fair that a sinless man had to die for our sins either.

We human beings have always raked our brains over ages and the result is so many religions, Gods etc. If there has to be a GOD then it has to be only one and HE has to be Universal. The moment HE is defined he no longer exists in true sense. Now your question can be answere by the theory of Karma. Here GOD does not interfere in fact does not have to interfere. The theory is well described by the Bhagwad Gita and also expounded By the enlightened Budhhdha. A person has to reap the results of his past karmas and is sowing seeds for his future plane of existence. A person lives by his wills and his actions are determined by his thoughts. The moment his mind becomes evil he harms himself first and then others. He harms himself Primarily and others getting hurt are secondary effects. Lets forget to Blame on our misdeeds on GOD and rather focus on our self improvement by deeds by thoughts and by wisdom. Without these we are nothing but animals. The effects of ones karma is much more than the human life. Some deep karmas yield result even after thousands of years.

God wont protect us from every bad thing, but He does protect us from MANY bad things, this is proven by the fact that billions of people are still alive and well in this day and age. Im sorry about your friend, and I dont know God's reasonings for things, however, he DID allow my mother to have a baby at 50 years old (you can read this on the earliest entries of my 360 for details) so we could use his umbillical stemcells for my Leukemia I should have died from 3 years ago. (Anyone with a question about my baby brother's stem cells, dont worry, he will be 1 this month and wasnt hurt in any way to aquire the stem cells)

It's good to remember we are spirits in a human body. The things that happen to us hear are only temporary and we must focus on the end result, ie, where will we go when we pass from this world.
You, your friends and family will have many difficulties in this lifetime. This is your spirit being testing and hopefully developing to its higher nature, but that choice is up to you.
Just think about what happened to the prophets of the past and attempt to live your life the way you should, then you will always be in peace. Remember, your life in this world is only temporary. But what you do here will have a BIG impact on what happens when you physical life here, ends.
Best wishes

Unfortunately if God were to take control of the world it would mean we would be mindless puppets with no choice but to do as he says.
Bad things happen to good people and good things happen to bad people - this is necessary so that we can notice the injustice in the world and do something about it.
Don't forget too that for a Christian to leave this world and be with God is a good thing - it may be hard for a while on the loved ones who are still here but God will carry them through

C.S. Lewis and others have wrote on this but it comes down to putting your love, faith and trust in God and Jesus.
Perhaps part of it has to do with something like this...
"We regard God as an airman regards his parachute; it's there for emergencies but he hopes he'll never have to use it." C.S. Lewis
It doesn't sound like it in your friends case. Maybe helping the mother and child will help those in the Church that might not have been saved...? May God bless the family and friends though.

You do not understand life and death..Your Christian friend's time was over and he had fulfilled what God wanted him to do. The rapist will go to hell when he dies and he should never have been let out of prison. God has taken his hand off of us and if you live in the USA, then you know that generally speaking America does not want God in anything. Take his 10 commandments off the wall at school, don't pray to him, don't talk about him. ect. This world in general is run by men that want nothing to do with God, so what do you expect to happen???
When Jesus returns to run the show many will not like it at all and will be against him. But Jesus will not allow things like this to happen.
