Do you have any regrets about doing it this way? I am considering just going to Hawaii and getting married on the beach with my sweetie... I wish friends and family could come... but no one will really be able to. I would prefer a simple deal... and I like the idea of a sunset beach ceremony. We've been together for a long time and I've just never been into the whole big wedding thing anyway. What do you think?

I'm doing the beach wedding thing. I am just inviting close friends and family. You could just invite like 10 people and take lots of pictures. I am getting married in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands. It is the way to go if you are on a budget. Wedding Attire (wedding dress rental etc.) is included in all of the wedding packages. http://www.stthomasweddingpackages.com/

i just went to my best friends' wedding in the dominican republic. she too wanted a small wedding and didn't want to deal with all the family and friends (since her family is quite big, he side would have been just over 200 people and she and her future husband were paying for the whole thing).. so, instead of hurting their feelings, i think a destination wedding was the answer... the sunset beach was awesome.. she too never really had a big wedding ideas/plans in her head that she's been mustering since childhood... even when i got married 3 years ago, she always said she wanted a very small wedding, not more than 100 people - all together... the photos, were beautiful... the whole sunset, the lighting, it was simple, delightful, and from what i understand, a whole lot more financially reasonable than having a wedding in the US, in a big hotel, having it catered, etc. good luck. i told my husband... when we renew our vows, we are definitely doing a destination wedding.

I want to do this, too. It's much more romantic and actually, cheaper. You can still have a party when you get back! If you've never been into the fairy tale wedding thing like me, GO FOR IT! Check out different destinations. I heard Thailand is amazing. There's also the Virgin Islands, The Bahamas (Paradise Island, really romantic!), and so forth.

My suggestion is to get married over there like you want and have a reception here for your family/friend's/etc. they want to share in your happiness. Don't take that away from them.

Hawaii's not all it's cracked up to be. There are other beutiful destination's you guys could check out. Something original.

Good Luck Bride to be!

;-)

My husband and I did this. It was beautiful, our pictures are beautiful, but I regret the fact that not all of our family could go. I honestly do not regret not having friends there (not that I wouldn't have liked it, but it doesn't hurt me), but his parents couldn't go because they have small children, one of my sisters was at work, her kids couldn't go if she wasn't going, his grandparents couldn't go either, none of my cousins or uncles... We're most likely going to have a renewal of vows later on so so that we can share our wedding with them.

My ex-bf's sister got married in Sri Lanka, and her parents and one sister went, but her brother (my then-bf) and I couldn't. She was perfectly happy with that, and so was he. I guess it depends on how close you are to the people who won't be able to go.
