Instead of speaking calmly during a problem he yells at me. i ask him nicely to please dont yell but he gets more and more worked up. Lately he is saying nasty things too like "you are not the brightest crayon in the box" then when he saw how much it upset me he apologised. but there has been more incidents since. My question is how can we overcome this?

As a couple you can't over come it. Your boyfriend has an anger issue. He should see a counceler for anger management. His words will evenyually take a huge toll on you no matter how many I'm sorry's he tells you. Yelling is usually just the beginning; next you might be his punching bag. Your boyfriend needs to acknowledge he has a problem and fix it. If he doesn't you should bring an end to it before you are sorry.

You cannot overcome this. Your boyfriend is a bully, and unless he wants to overcome it, it won't go away. The only thing you can do is as soon as he starts yelling or putting you down, calmly say "I will not be treated this way" and walk out. Maybe he will realize that he will lose you unless he behaves in a more polte fashion.

your boyfriend might have a yelling problem. i've been in your position when my ex boyfriend called me names and yelled at me so much. No matter how much i tried to not yell back, he'll always yell...even if it's a small reason to fight over about. I would usually let him relax. if he would call, i would ignore it until he's calm and then to talk about it. you can overcome this problem if you know how to tie the ropes, but if you can't then it's hard to keep the relationship strong and going.

you need to catch him at a time when he is calm and understanding and sit him down and tell him that you guys need to talk. You should tell him how you feel about all of the yelling and nagging and the other incidents and tell him how u want him to treat you. you are the female and u should be treated like a princess...if he still continues to yell at you after this, i say u should break it off with him and try to find another guy who cares about your feelings more....hope this helped!!!

You can't. He is either sexually frustrated, or he thinks that you are just there to satisfy his immediate needs. He will leave you when he finds someone he likes more.

I am sorry that this sounds cruel, but this is the truth without the sweet words.

Honey - leave him. He needs to go to anger management and work on his own issues before he can have a healthy relationship with anyone. You deserve to be treated better.

It's not just temporary rage. It's dating violence. Excessive yelling and verbal insults are the most common forms of this. You must stop dating him and seek help if necessary. If you don't, it will only progress to physical violence, and possibly, rape.

He yells because he cant discuss an issue, so he yells to beat you down and "win" what ever disagreement you guys have. Leave his insecure @$$ and be happy.
