Bipolar disorder is usually genetic I believe, so yes, the person would be born with the genes. Usually though not every child in a family gets the disorder. My belief is that it takes a stressor to turn those genes on. As a rule physicians don't diagnose Bipolar disorder until one is older. This is because many times other problems can look like bipolar-especially ADD. Many times a child with ADD will later be diagnosed with bipolar disorder. This disorder is not about coping or dealing with the world. It is a physical disorder of the brain that manifests in the body rhythm and emotional rhythm of the person involved. My big question when folks wonder about Bipolar disorder is can the person go for days or weeks at a time on very little sleep and feel the next day as though they don't need more. For an average person, if you are short on sleep for just several days you are tired or dragging. If you are bipolar, you don't feel tired, you just keep on rolling along as normal or almost better than normal. The mind clicks along faster too....called flight of thoughts or racing thoughts. In the manic phase everything speeds up and in the depressive stage it slows down. People think that depression is about how you feel and it does make you feel badly, but the brain literally slows down and doesn't work as well. Hope this helps.

Bipolar disorder is a genetic condition that someone is born with. It can show up as young as 2 or 3. Using alcohol during pregnancy causes Fetal Alcohol Syndrome which is not a genetic condition. These are two very different conditions and manifest quite differently in children.

It depends on the doctor. Right after my grandfather died, they diagnosed my grieving 73 year old grandmother as bipolar. I'm sure the term is grossly overused; as a catchall for not handling life with outward grace.
Alcohol use during pregnancy can cause fetal alcohol syndrome and other birth defects in the baby. The only harm to the mother is poor physical/spiritual health.
Pregnancy can cause all kinds of chemical "imbalances", emotional upheavals and anxieties. No worries.
Mental disorders can affect anyone at any given time. Like cancer. They can also disappear at any given time. Like cancer.

I have worked in psychiatry and have seen children diagnosed with bipolar however they don't usually diagnose until older because it can be difficult to really know that the child actually has bipolar. Symptoms can affect young children. Yes people are born with it, I am not certain if alcohol use can cause this disorder.

I remember having bipolar symptoms in the third grade, and getting in trouble for it. I'm 39 now and still have it but treating the manic behavior really helps me control it.
My dad, his dad, and his grandfather all had the same bipolar & manic symptoms as I have. None of their wives drank.

I agree with blues man. You wont really know until the person has to deal with different groups of people. The disorder makes them not know how to act to different people and can cause depression.

it varies from person to person.i think for most it starts in the
teenage years.most dont see it because some of it looks like teen
behavior.some do show up earlier.and as far as i can tell you are born with it.Drinking while your pregnant is never good, not sure
if it would cause bipolar.but does cause other mental problems.
you need to ask a dr.to be sure.

apparently that i'm the only one at here who actual study her question. every physique is announcing "get meds" "attempt greater sturdy" "look for god", out of your placed up that's obvious that the muse of your rigidity and melancholy is your intense worry of failure in school, and existence oftentimes. perhaps your mum and dad are too stressful on you. clarify to them that for the time of accordance to modern-day psychological learn, telling your little ones that they are mess united statesdoes not strengthen their paintings ethic and is merely undesirable parenting. Please understand that for the time of certainty not something you're able to do in intense college (different that homicide) is going to "decrease to rubble all the existence". 2d, rules faculties purely look at your college grades and admissions tests, so what you do in intense college rather has no result. I never took any AP or honors instructions in intense college, and have been given mediocre grades and that i nonetheless have been given into between the precise one hundred universities interior the country, the place many scholars bypass onto precise medical and regulation faculties. i think of a huge component to your "prevalent rigidity illness" is merely questioning that issues are greater significant than they are actual. in case you give up annoying plenty approximately your grades and merely attempt to relish college and existence, you would be able to discover that a number of those "issues" will exchange into much less important and you will nonetheless in all danger get sturdy grades.
