Our local pizza place accepts credit cards. When they deliver the pizza, they bring the receipt to be signed. Most of the time they forget a pen. Obviously I've learned to bring my own pen to the door, but itsn't it their responsibility/customer courtesy to offer a pen? (I've also started tipping more for delivery people whodo remember a pen!)

I used to deliver pizza and the lesson I learned was to always have a pen on hand. Some people come to the door with a pen, some ask you for one, and there's been a few times where I just couldn't find a pen and didn't want to waste or extend time till they get their pizza. It makes you seem more professional to the customer, and having to go and search for a pen might mean they won't be as nice with their tip.

Yes, the Pizza delivery driver should carry a pen in their pocket. That means they are organized and are thinking on their toes. I would probably do the same thing as you, and tip the drivers who offer the pen more, just because they deserve it for common sense and courtesy.

I am a pizza delivery driver in pittsburgh. It is the correct ettiquette of the driver to provide a pen. Its just like the waitress at a resturant would you pay for your meal with a credit card and expect a pen? of course! Good for you for tipping thats a lot more curtieous than most people.

They probably start the night with a pen but people forget to give it back...Some people are probably overjoyed that every time they get a pizza they also get a free pen!!!! If it really bothers you why don't you call their office and make a suggestion to the manager that he should have company pens printed and given away free to ALL customers. Free advertising for them and no more stress for you!!!

Give the guy a break. He probably USED to carry pens until he realized customers would always accidentally bring them back inside with the pizza!

It's helpful, but I wouldn't consider it courtesy. They've got a lot to worry about as it is (that's a hard job, and I wouldn't do it).

Plus, pizza places taking credit cards is a fairly new thing. I'd just keep doing what you are doing, and not worry about them not bringing a pen. It might be an annoyance, but for them bringing your dinner to your door, I think it's a pretty minor annoyance.

How would you feel if they came to the door pen, credit card receipt in hand but they were so concerned with remembering the pen that they forgot the pizza?

My place does that. It's a small local chain that I love dearly....they always take great care of me...maybe because I'm a good tipper.

I take a pen with me to the door...and if they don't have one I let them keep mine....pens are cheap....just make it part of the tip. They seem to really appreciate it.

Yes, they should bring a pen. It's their responsibility to make sure all the receipts are in order.

Sometimes they don't bring a pen to my place too. I don't tip more or less depending on it though. Someplaces when I order online don't need a signature when I ask...
