I currently own a PC, but plan on switching to a Mac. I will probably just use my PC for occasional gaming rather than bother with having to buy a new copy of Windows XP Home Edition to install on my mac with Boot Camp. But my real question is, is there a significant enough difference between the Mac version and the Windows version of Microsoft Office to warrant my shelling out $130 or so to have Microsoft Office on my Mac rather than just using a PC for word processing and such? Also, do you think it is worth it to buy a copy of XP to install on my Mac so I can do everything on a single computer?

Well, I would not recommend shelling out the extra money to put windows on your mac. Windows is vulnerable to many types of threats, so if something happens, it would bring down your mac. Now, as for the office issue, microsoft is coming out with the office 2007 release at the end of the month. They have yet to say anything about releasing a new version for mac. If you are absolutly dependent on microsoft office, then I would buy the pc version of the newest release when it comes out. However, there is another alternative. There is a program called open office. This is a free, open source productivity suite similar to microsoft office. Open office reads and writes the microsoft office format, so you can read coworker's documents, and create them in formats that they can use. The best part is that open office is available for both mac and pc. To download a copy, go to openoffice.org. Note, that it does not have a program like outlook, so I recommend mozilla thunderbird, which is also free, and is available for both mac and pc. Visit mozilla.com to download a free copy. I hope this helps!

Do what I did... torrent the Mac copy of Microsoft Office 2004 and Mac's iWork. Both work great from torrent sites.

My question is why you would want to junk your Mac with XP? Firstly, you should wait for Vista, second... your Mac will be great out of box. I had never, never, used a Mac before but now I hate XP and wouldn't trade my Mac for even the highest end PC.

if you already have a version of xp you don't need a new one, and if its a mac you don't need xp on it....as far as office goes...its about the same and if you own a full version you can get a mac version and activate it....if you are getting the new mac with the intel processor then you can run whatever you want on it....you do not need to run 2 OS on it to do that.
