Ok, so I dont have a lot of wieghts, or a person to spot me, so...

What I do is high reps with lighter weight (50 pounds). When I am done I am dead tired but I am not sore. From my understanding of weight lifting and all, what it does is tears up your muscles and the muscles heal stronger and bigger. If I am not sore is the weight lifting still working?

Higher weight, fewer reps = larger, beefier muscles

and vis versa

"Soreness comes from throwing something at your body that it isn't used to. So even if you're in great shape and you try something new, you're going to feel soreness. Once your body becomes familiar with the activity, it has the defenses to prevent soreness. This is a good thing. Otherwise you'd be sore all the time.

So even though you're no longer feeling sore after your workouts, you're still getting a good workout. If you feel like you're working hard during your lifting session and pushing yourself to the point of fatigue, you're getting all of the benefits, and probably all of the results, you're after. Whenever you change your routine, there is a decent chance you'll experience a bit of residual soreness. "

No it doesn't tear them up. It makes them work, more oxygen is generated into them to help them grow along with some other chemicals. I am not sure what they are, but I do know they aren't damaged doing workouts unless you over do them and use steroids. What your doing is fine, and it takes time for them to get larger... You see them everyday so your not going to notice them increasing in size like someone else would.

If you want to get big its High weight Low rep
Low weight High reps gets you lean muscles

You don't have to be sore in order for your muscles to grow.

well dude, like they always say " NO PAIN,NO GAIN"... you have to build your resistance. like one day do 100lbs the next time do 105lbs, and so on. always at least add 5lbs to your workout. if you dont you're wasting your time, when your muscles hurt then you know you had a great workout.. i'm a licensed trainer, so i know what i'm talking about... good luck !!!
