Wow I've never heard of someone actually wanting braces this badly. Do y'all have health insurance? Maybe orthodontics is on your health insurance and then it wouldn't cost so much. Also tell them the long term benefits from braces. Did they have braces as kids? if they did...tell them how you want to experience gorgeous straight teeth! =]

First of all, tell your parents that seeing an orthodontist for a consultation is usually FREE. At least you could investigate "how bad" your teeth are. Perhaps you don't need braces now, but could get them later when your parents have saved a bit of money. Average cost of 2 years of treatment is about $5,000, including retainers.

If there is a dental school in your area, you could possibly get treatment there, as well.

Talk to your dentist and see what he/she recommends as well.

If, no matter what, your parents can't afford to fix your teeth, you can still get braces when YOU are an adult and you can pay for it yourself, or have your insurance cover all or some of the cost.

I believe straight teeth give you confidence. My parents wanted to get me braces but i always hesitated and thought i was too old for metal braces so i tried Invisalign (which isn't the best experience) but still believe you should look at you options. Usually you can set a plan with the dentist and pay a little each month. Also look at near by dental schools. Sometimes they offer services for much less!

RELAX !!! I read your other questions and it sounds to me that you are unhappy with alot of aspects in your life and unhappy with just being you. You have to realize that wanting better looking teeth, losing weight and pimples are not things that you can just go get or just get rid of .First your teeth..... Maybe it is really not possible for your parents to have braces for you right now. That does not mean your teeth will never look the way you would like them to look, it just simply means that they are not going to right now. Don't worry things really do have a way of working out. Now for your weight that is something you can do on your own without having an excuse! WALK !WALK! WALK ! You have to say no to fattening foods. Look at the serving size on the box of cereal and have 1 serving. not 2 or 3 . Ask your mother to buy SPLENDA for you instead of sugar you will like it, it tastes just like sugar with zero calories. It is more exspensive than sugar but less expensive than braces and that way your parents could help you that way on your quest to look better and be healthier . That alone would be a great start for you NO SUGAR. Life is all about makeing choices. They are your choices to make, trust yourself and you will slowly start to become a very strong person. Every time you say NO to something that is not good for you, and start being your own boss of yourself you will start to transform into the person you are striving to become. There is no way around that. Now the pimples..... My sugestion would simply be wash your face every morning when you wake up w/ very warm water and every night before you go to bed. Also change your pillow case often. Don't worry so much about the things you cant change right now. Concentrate on the things you can. You will be fine!
Good Luck To You
You sound like a really bright kid!

When I was younger I really wanted braces too And I'm glad that I got them, My parents were really broke at the time but they offered payment plans like maybe $100/month or so. Just try and talk them into taking you for an evaluation and get an estimate it may change their mind seeing that some places do payment plans. But first do your research and call local orthodontists to find out if they do offer payments plans first. Most do. Good luck. I hope you do get them.

There's another orthodontic procedure called invisalign that's somewhat cheaper. What they do is make a cast of your teeth and you get these clear plastic things that fit over them. Every couple of weeks you go back for new ones and they gradually adjust your teeth. It also looks a lot more comfortable than braces. See if your folks will go for that. Otherwise, just save your pennies and do it when you're older.

Call the Dental Schools (Universities)in your area. Sometimes they do income based work for patients that can't afford it.
