I swear this company is going to be the end of me. Why don't they fix their software?

Why in the world would someone write software that works with Windows that doesn't run well in windows?

Ah maybe I need an update - but when I hit the button to update, it sends me to Adobe's home page. Then I have eleventy berbillion pieces of info in front of me and I just close the document and restart the computer (have to end processes through the Task Manager) and forget about even trying because I have other options. Everyone who runs Adobe is rapidly getting alienated from me... lol

Adobe isn't the culprit, what is happening is the file type you are opening is a pdf file, the settings within your version of acrobat reader are set to open in a seperate window, so the computer has to first determine the file type then find the program to open that file type then read the info from within the program as to what to do with the file, then the server is still sending the info to your pc at the same time and the file is probably compressed so it is decompressing and loading all at the same time....if you simply update your adobe reader and go into the settings to show the file within the reader and not within a browser window, the you won't have the problem.

Just which Adobe software? Adobe Reader? Foxit is a better PDF reader.

"Foxit Reader 2.0 is a free PDF document viewer and printer, with incredible small size (only 1.5 M download size), breezing-fast launch speed and amazingly rich feature set. Foxit Reader 2.0 supports Windows 98/Me/2000/XP/2003. Its core function is compatible with PDF Standard 1.6."

does it crash or seems like it freezes up? If it's freezing up, it's loading and that does make it lag. Instead of opening adobe files directly, download them and then open them. that way your browser will not be affected by it and you won't get the hang time it takes to load. If it's fully crashing (notifies you that it is shutting down and wants to send an error report), it may be the actual browser. reinstall that and it may not crash anymore. I recommend using mozilla anyways because it's not as "integrated" with windows and if it crashes, you can recover easier.

You can adjust the adobe settings to not open in a browser window. Had this problem too.

use a downlaoad manager.
http://bestofrest.blogspot.com/2006/12/free-download-manager_06.html
when you need to open a pdf file, copy its url and add it to the download manager as a new download. It will save a copy of the pdf on the hard disk. Once it is copied then it will open in standalone adobe reader, instead of the plugin in the browser.

sounds like your memory is too low for the program to work.
2 questions.

1. how old is your computer? old = small memory
2. how new is the version of adobe that you have?
new = large memory usage

It's probable that you don't have an adobe service turned on that needs to be.

It is annoying isn't it? Make sure that you have all of the latest updates, that helps, but it does happen quite frequently anyway. If you figure it out...let the rest of us know:)
