My dauchsund (3 years old) has to go outside for a while and in the winter time, I like to put a thick shirt or sweater on him, but he ends up chewing it. How can this be prevented?

Ah, yes, the wonderful world of doxies!!! Of my 4, 2 love coats and 2 hate them. Instead of a sweater, try a coat with no legs. That way he can be warm but the leg parts don't fall down and trip him or bug him. Mine have coats (that I make for them) that fasten under the neck and belly. Give him small treats when putting it on so he associates the coat with a good thing. After awhile, he should accept it as part of going outside. If he never accepts it, just don't leave him outside in the cold too long, he'll be OK. You're lucky that he'll even go outside in the winter! My oldest does not like to get her feet wet in the snow! Good luck!

Most dogs don't like them. Don't put it on, because it means it doesn't like it. It probably has thick enough coat because all dogs grow winter coats to keep them warm, that is what it's for. Dogs aren't made to wear sweatshirts. But if you REALLY want it to wear a sweatshirt then scold it every time it trys ti chew on it and it will learn not to.

I have two dachshunds. The one that chews, chews everything. I have no idea how to make him stop. If he doesn't like the sweater, take it off him. That's why God gave dogs fur.

Um...don't put one on it! You may not have noticed, but dogs come with something called "fur." It's that coat of hair covering its epidermis. It's meant to keep them warm during the wintertime. If it's very cold, don't keep your dog out too long. Even if you do, their fur grows in thicker to keep them warmer.

Don't put a sweater on your dog, that is mean. Why do you think they have fur?

Dogs aren't meant to wear clothes! It's just another freakish fad started by that brat Paris Hilton!
