Insomnia is without question due to a number of issues. Too many to list in this answer! But a couple might include, stress, a depressive disorder or something as elementary as a lot of caffeinated drinks before bed. There is really no way to determine in Yahoo! Answers the key reason why a person has sleep problems and your best bet is to speak to a medical doctor. Before the medical doctor you should attempt a few homemade remedies. Never drink caffeinated drinks before bed, aim to do a bit of physical exercise for you to tire yourself, but yet do this during the day or early evening hours as immediately following training you will feel alert. Find some good over the counter remedies if this does not work consider your doctor. You can get unwanted effects to some prescribed sleeping medicine and if you go through any you ought to again return and speak with your doctor.

It all depends on the cause of it. If it's nightmares, stress or something psychological, you may need to visit a psychiatrist before anything can be solved.

If you simple cannot sleep, and know no reason why this is the case, there are a few things you can try.

1. Get into a routine. Eat breakfast, lunch and dinner each day, and go to bed at a reasonable time, even if you're not going to sleep. Train yourself to lie in bed until it's time to get up, even if it means you're lying awake all night. This will at least get your body into an active/rest cycle.

2. Get exercise every day. At least 40 minutes worth. This will create more need for your body to sleep.

3. Cut out the coffee and soft drinks, or any other caffiene/stimulant intakes in the day.

4. If need be, you can try a few natural remedies - visit a local health food store and ask what remedies can aid sleep (they'll likely recommend vallerian root).

Good luck!

Life's daily stressors, major decisions and consuming caffeine too late in the day all contribute to insomnia.

1: Get out of bed if you can't sleep. Lying in bed sleepless will only make you more stressed.

2: Read or perform a light chore until you feel sleepy. Then try to go back to sleep - or, if you're feeling stressed or agitated, try some relaxation techniques.

3: Relax by listening to soft music or a meditation tape. Do yoga or gentle stretching.

4: Take a hot bath with aromatherapy soaps. Keep the lights dim. Bright light will make you more alert.

5: Try an herbal sleep remedy to induce sleepiness. Valerian, chamomile, catnip, lavender, lime flower, passion flower, hops or skullcap can be taken in tea or capsule form.

6: Snack on foods high in tryptophan, an amino acid that can help you relax. These include turkey, bananas, figs, dates, milk and tuna.

7: Essential oils can also help you relax. Add six to eight drops of lavender or marjoram to a bath, or put four drops of oil on your pillow.

8: Return to bed once you're feeling sleepy

The exercise routine works, because you are exhausted.

If you are not into that.

Do not lie there not sleeping, you will drive yourself nuts.

Get up, watch tv, read, go back when you get drowsy.

I hav'nt tried the tylenol pm thing. Sounds ok. Too much is not god for the stomach lining of course.

I don't sweat it too much. My body will eventually catch up and make me sleep. If you get 7 or 8 hours a day thru naps and sleep, you should be ok.

Do you have problems falling asleep or staying asleep.? I have a lot of problems falling asleep and noticed that not drinking any soda for about 3 hours before I plan on going to bed really helps. Also, when I'm trying to fall asleep I count backwards from 99 to zero. This helps clear my mind and makes it easier to fall asleep.
