I can't tell you how to deal with this I have never been in this type of storm, but I can say that I am terrified of tornado's, I can just hear the word and it really gets to me, bad, so I guess what I am trying to say is that I am so sorry that you had to experience such
trauma and I wish that I could help you but it seems to me that you would do really good to see someone in the professional
field, You really need to talk this out and try to get control over your emotion's and your mental state, this had to be the worse nightmare you could ever live through, I can't seem to say enough how sorry I am that you had to experience this terrible nightmare, I just can't imagine the horror that you went through and having to see the little girl, I know with out ever having to go through this, how sad and traumatic this has been for you. I will pray for you and I will think of you and the little girl for the rest of my life and I do pray that you will in some way overcome the pain and the trauma that you have had to endure. May God be with you and my heart goes out to you. God Bless You and I pray you find what you are looking for to help you with this pain and again I am so sorry!!

It sounds like you have OCD, GAD and depression but not PTSD however that one would be hard to tell without asking specific questions. Antidepressants are often described for anxiety disorders as well as depression. They're also prescribed for other reasons too, sometimes off label. Unfortunately most doctors (depending what country you live in) won't prescribe anxiolytics (anti anxiety drugs) due to risk of addiction however they will for certain cases eg fear of dentist, fear of flying. Even so, your doctor (or a different one) may prescribe some if it is adversely affecting you (which it is). I'd highly reccomend CBT or some other form of therapy as CBT is the gold standard for OCD and that should help you immensely.

In addition to meds and therapy, I'd recommend trying to find a support group. (I'm assuming you're seeing a psych, since you're on medication already.) Ask your doctor / therapist for a referral to any support groups in your area.

Also, you might want to check out the website for the National Mental Health Association. They may have a list of support groups as well.

You mentioned EMS and Fire . . . if you are affiliated with either, ask your chief or supervisor for assistance. Debriefing and/or counseling is sometimes necessary in those fields. (Been there, done both, dealt with some bad stuff myself)

Good luck!

I'm sorry, but I don't have an answer for your question. I also have PTSD - but did not experience anything as life changing as you did. From my understanding, Seroquel is an anti-psychotic drug (I take 400 mg at night to sleep). I'm not psychotic, but it makes me really sleep well. There are so many other meds out there that I believe could help you.

I have a brother who has serious PTSD from Vietnam. He takes an antidepressant that helps, but like most people with PTSD, it just doesn't seem to ever go away, it just gets easier to deal with it.

God bless you.

it may help alleviate the symptoms a little bit to eat a really nutritious diet and take vitamins, get a lot of good hard exercise, learn some yoga and t'ai chi, and stand in cold shower for 30 seconds every time you shower.
for your vitamins, take a good multivitamin, cal-mag, fish oil and flax oil
try ginseng pills daily, as an experiment
caffeine might be bad
glandular supplements might be good (adrenal, thyroid)
you should read "from fatigued to fantastic" (not about ptsd but has good info)
These are guesses, clear everything with a good doctor

Get therapy! Drugs can help relieve the symptoms so you can deal with what happened, but you actually have to deal with what happened. My husband successfully overcame PTSD after a ton of therapy and was able to discontinue medication. You can never erase your traumatic memories, but you can learn how to cope with them so they don't interfere in your life.

I am going through something similar due to a car accident. You can not resolve this on your own you do have to go talk to a counselor.
