Reach out to the Richmond Convention & Visitors Bureau. They have a guidebook that contains information on meeting halls/banquets areas for weddings. It gives capacity numbers, etc. I think there may be some catering contacts in it too, but I'm not positive.
Richmond Magazine also has a Bridal Guide issue that will surely list some.
Sharper Pallete is a popular one I've heard of.
Finally, I heard there was a Wedding Expo planned in the near future, or it just happened.
Good luck

Sorry, I got married in Virginia Beach. Catering was at the Marriott Oceanfront North. Food was good, although not as good as in the tasting, and they let me down a bit as far as actually overseeing the reception while it was happening. They didn't really plan with my DJ or photographer like I asked them to, even with the detailed schedule I gave them. However, they worked very hard during the planning process.
Other vendors:
Diane Smith of Diane Smith Photography was so incredibally talented, and she is based in Williamsburg. She drove to the Beach, so she'd probably drive to Richmond. There are a few photos of her work in my profile.
If you decide to hold the wedding in the Beach area, I must recommend Sandy at Norfolk Wholesale florist for the flowers. Really inexpensive and GORGEOUS!
Dj Tom Boltze of Pro DJs was awful, rude, and broke our contract in a number of ways. I could have sued for all of our money back, but didn't want to deal with it. Don't use him.
Pastry chef Emily de Long of Gourmet Cake Shoppe makes beautiful, not very yummy wedding cakes. And is very unaccomodating.

properly.... shall we SEE NOW.... back even as i became in the united statesnavy (early 1960's), the service i became assigned to became "homestead-ported" in Norfolk, Virginia. My 2 perfect pals (Arnie and Jack) used to take me homestead with them on the weekends. Arnie lived in Asheville, North Carolina, and Jack lived in Richmond. We spent alot of time in both cities. Asheville became extra of a tender and middle-elderly crew of folk. Richmond became extra of an elderly crew. the ingredient I beloved maximum about Richmond, became the "historic" internet sites, etc. save in recommendations.... that became virtually 50-years-in the past.... cities (a twin of human beings) have an inclination to "substitute."

I suggest visiting online website such as
http://www.weddinglenox.com ,weddingvendors.com ,onewed.com
Unlike most yellow pages, they have detailed comparison for vendors (DJ,videographer, florist, and photographer) you can choose.
One problem I had with my wedding is that it is hard to locate vendors in most website as most likely they group by states and there are too many of them that are too far from me and I have to look at each site to figure out.
I like weddinglenox as they have an easy to use layout to show you pictures, pricing and location in one page, plus you can send out your inquiry for matching vendor to contact you. That saves me lots of time to locate the best vendors with the right price.
