All drops are NOT the same. Hartz drops are pretty much USELESS. First of all... they don't kill fleas. Collars are a waste of money too. Forget collars, shampoos, dips, OTC drops, fogging, spraying the yard, and treating the house. You don't need to do that anymore. There are only two things that work in nearly 100% of the cases... they are both drops... Advantage and Frontline Top Spot. I prefer Advantage. Available at most vets and some pet stores. They cost about $12-14 per dose and applied once a month. If you do those drops, you most likely will not need (or waste money) on the other stuff. I have treated MANY pet reactions to Hartz drops. I can't believe it is still on the market.

NO, please do not use Hartz flea control, or any fle control you buy off the shelf at a store like Walmart or Kmart, or even most of them at Petsmart. Most of them have a dangerously high does of pesticide/insecticide in them, and Hartz has even been blamed for the death of several animals from the flea products. To ensure your dogs' or cats' safety, use only the stuff you can get from your vet, such as Frontline, Frontline Plus, Sentinel (not a drop), Advantage, or something similar (thuogh I have heard some bad things about Advantage). If you use a good drop, they do wonders for fleas. Usually, the collars don't do much, they may help right around where they are, but other than that they just annoy the animal, since the can be quite itchy. Remember to keep using flea control year round, as the eggs can hatch if it warms up for a day or two in the middle of winter, or you can pick them up from someone else's house or pets. Most drops regulate the growth of fleas so the cycle is broken as the fleas don't mature. Some also repel fleas as well as ticks, and almost all of them kill the fleas as they bite your dog/cat.

No! Don't use anything that you can buy over-the-counter!!! That includes flea collars!!! They can cause allergic reactions and kill your pet! Most of the OTC products use the bottom of the barrel chemicals and are very unsafe.

Spend the extra money and get the quality products from the vet's office. They may cost more, but it is less likely that your pet will have a reaction to it!

And regardless of what others may tell you, if you have an infestation, you will NEVER control it if you do not treat your home and yard. I own a pest control company and I understand fleas. If you are only seeing a few on the animals, treating them should control the problem. If the problem doesn't go away quickly, you need to do a complete treatment including home and yard! If you feel you need to go that way, e-mail me and I will walk you through the best way to handle that! Good luck!

Advantage or Frontline from the vet is the best stuff on the market and is perfectly safe for your pet. The Hartz flea drops contains pesticides which can enter your pets nervous system. I have seen a few animals actually die from the Hartz flea drops.
It would be better to get the good stuff and keep your pet safe!

Actually flea collars barely protect the area around the neck, much less the rest of the body. Hartz products are not good. There have been many cases of animals having severe reactions to the chemicals used. They're also not safe to use if children will be exposed to the animal.
Products like Frontline, Revolution, etc. are more expensive but they're also much more effective and much, much safer.

The fleas may be gone, or they migrated elsewhere. At only 8 weeks, he is at the minimum age for most safe products for fleas, and Hartz products are not typically in that category. Capstar is the only product for very young kittens, and that is a vet product which kills active fleas only, and not their eggs. At eight weeks, it should be safe to use something like Frontline Plus. So get rid of the flea collar before it causes a toxic reaction with the skin of your kitten, and get an effective and safe product. Frontline Plus is one of the top sellers. Frontline Plus will kill fleas (but it is not instant) and the second component stops eggs from hatching.

I think it's an okay product. I used flea collars as well. My dog never got fleas with the flea collor as well as using over the counter flea/tick drops. I used Frontline a couple of times and my dog did not get fleas (but I supected that she did get them, but never saw 1). So. The best person to ask though is your vet. They can explain better the difference between OTC dog tick/flea medication as well as flea colloars. Good Luck.

Hartz(personaly) is not the best choice of flea proteection. Frontline and K-9 advantix are alot better. The drops (I think) make the eggs fall off of the body and kill the already living fleas. I hope I helped!-toodles!

In my clinic we sell Advantage and Advantix. Several people have come in looking for flea treatments for their dogs. When we tell them about these two products which are also drops they say they have already tried them. Come to find out it was Hartz that they bought at Walmart. They try some of our product and always come back for more.

AHHH! NOOOO! This is the worst thing to put on your animals short of nuclear waste. I have seen so many animals go into convulsions from this and die. It's horrible just to save a few bucks and it doesn't even prevent fleas. Get frontline or advantage it's much safer and works very well.
