I'm going to have hair extensions put in to lengthen my own hair. The stylsist doing the work is not my "regular" stylist, just someone recommended because of her good work. The extensions are very expensive and I've saved up, but I've got no idea what an appropriate tip should be

At least 15%. If you tip the stylist $10 or $20 bucks, she'll probably A) be very disappointed...it takes a long time and a lot of effort to do extensions, and B) you may have a hard time when you have to go in for maintenance. Stylists remember good clients who are personable and tip well and will often put more effort into their work or give the client a break when filling in the hair; in turn, they remember bad tippers too and will put as much effort as you have shown them their work is worth.

I know it might be expensive ($60 - $80 for $400 extensions) but if you plan on doing it regularly, you want to be fair and keep the stylist happy! I hope you enjoy your new hair!

I just got my hair layered and it cost 15 and I tipped her 5......I think you should look at the amount of hard work she is putting in and base the tip on that..and also dont be too cheap...

15 % is average...but because they're so expensive, 15% would be a lot of money! I don't think $20 would be an unreasonable amount.

it just depends on how happy you are with the results and how much time it takes. At least $20, if you are satisfied. If not you don't have to tip anything.
