And what is a reason I might get sore throats quite often, I get one like, once every three months, is this normal, how do I stop it or numb the pain?

Well, if you have frequent colds, sinus drainage causes a lot of sore throats (I speak from experience).

There are two remedies I know of for quick relief.

1. (I've used this and it works) - Take a small glass, and fill it with a teaspoon or two of salt, then fill it 2/3 to 3/4 full with warm (not hot) water. Dilute the salt by stirring it, and gargle this solution for about 20 seconds.

2. Mix honey and vinegar together (about 1/2 each). The vinegar kills the bacteria, but the honey gives it a decent taste and reduces the acidity of the vinegar. I think you gargle this solution too, but I am not sure. The first one should work just fine if you don't have honey or vinegar available. Just don't EVER gargle or drink straight vinegar: it will scald your throat.

Hope this helps.

A hot beverage will relax those muscles and help with the soreness. No milk products of any kind. Lemon drops work really well. There are also throat sprays at your local pharmacy that will help. Be as quiet as possible today. Hot tea with honey and lemon is good. Gargling with warm salt water will help. Chicken broth helps, because the salt helps to heal. If it doesn't go away after tonight, seek medical attention. The vocal chords are muscles, and can be ruptured. Best of luck -- been there many times!

Okay don't think me weird for offering this suggestion but a few years ago I had some cold or flu it was really really bad. I went to NCSU at the time so I went to the medical center there and they said there was some germ or bacteria in my throat that was causing it to swell and be sore. What they prescribed was called Duke's Magic Mouthwash. Well when i used the littlest amount the sore throat the had been plagueing me for weeks all but disappeared. I stretched that medicine out for years and it never took more than a few hours for my sore throat to clear up. See if you can get a prescription for that stuff. I'm not sure what was in it, but it worked.

if you are getting a sore throat so often you should see your doctor it may be because of your tonsils they may have to be taken out. if this is the case as soon as the tonsils are out you will not have any more sore throats. as for trying to soothe a sore throat try sipping on some tea with honey, the honey is supposed to soothe. hope you feel better!

you should talk to a doctor about your frequent sore throats, doctors know best. As to numbing the pain, try Chloraseptic; its specially formulated for sore throats. You can get it at any grocery store, and its pretty inexpensive.

There are several "kinds" of sore throats. I would need more information than this. Depending on the cause, frequent cases of sore throat can be nothing more than sinuses drip. It may also be something more serious requiring antibiotics. See you doctor.

I get sore throats a lot too and what I've found works really well is having a hot cup of lemonade, I don't know why but it just helps. Its sounds like u might wanna get ur tonsils removed if your getting them that often.

I dont know the reason why, we all have different immunity levels, but if Im out of regular cold medicine I give my kids pickle juice! Im serious, the vinegar and salt help!! Otherwise I suggest Zicam at the FIRST feeling of the sore throat coming on, really helps cut it down, if not out!!!!

it's caused mostly by streptococcus hemolytic bacteria.... but at times it's caused by an underlying illness... you can try visiting a physician and he'd give you antibiotics for it... if left untreated it can get severe and cause tonsilitis... at that case you can volunteer yourself for tonsilectomy and be rid of the pain forever... if you keep on getting it for a long time it will develop into rheumatic heart disease... which may be life threathening.

my classmate who has this hereditary predisposition to sore throat had tonsilectomy... she said it was better than having rheumatic heart disease... so i suppose that you ahould consult a health proffesional and see what he can recommend...
