My daughter couldnt tolerate whole milk either, still cant and she is almost 3. What I did was kept her on formula untill she was almost 2 and my paediatrition suggested a mixture of half regular soy milk and half 1%....It worked! Slowly increase the 1% and in no time you will have a child drinking milk and saving money from formula.( if you breastfeed that works too just try putting it in a cup or bottle )

Every baby is different, my sister was lactose intolerant and was on soy milk. She's not that way now, she's grown out of it. My youngest daughter had a hard time on whole milk after I weaned her, I just tried 2% and it worked. It's really try and try again, you also have to be careful with soy because it's a common allergy. I would get a small amount of both and see which the baby prefers.

Soy milk is in my opinion. I had the same problem with my little one. We tried the rice stuff but he didn't like it. Plus he was already drinking soy formula since he was 4 mos. old and he made the transition from the soy formula to soy milk much better. So keep that in mind. Plus soy milk has a more filling effect than the rice stuff does and it has more nutrients. if your little one is not doing well with either one you should talk to his/her pediatritian and they can tell you what else to try.

Find out from a doctor if there is any allergies there at all first.
Can't say I have ever tried rice milk, but I love soy milk and my whole family drink it.
I have hayfever allergies and dairy products make it worse, so I think soy is fantastic. There is so many brands around, try a few to see which tastes better to you.

Talk to your doctor. Have you tried 2%? It's better than rice or soy milk, because they can cause allergies.
Do they break out when drinking it or just not like it? If they just don't like it you can try adding a small amount of ovaltine to it for a better taste.
Also remember, a 1 year old needs to drink more than milk. 100% fruit juices, water, etc.

If your child can't tolerate milk , he/she could be lactose intolerant. There is milk called "Lactaid" that's lactose free. Lactaid comes is whole milk, 2%, chocolate, etc. We're big fans of the chocolate at my house.
Here's the link to Lactaids website so you can do some research: http://www.lactaid.com/products/index.jhtml?id=lactaid/products/products.inc
Soy milk is not the easiest for little kids to tolerate. Soybeans cause a great deal of gas which can result in a very unhappy, super gassy baby. Been there, tried that. And rice milk never made it past my sons nose.
I hope this helps ;-) My son was unable to drink any milk at all until we tried Lactaid and it's been great for us.

My son couldn't tolerate cow's milk until he was 3 years old. He drank soy formula until then.
Is it a lactose intolerance? If so, you can buy Lact-aid milk...cow's milk with the enzyme to help digest the lactose.
It's best to ask your child's doc what he recommends. Just give the office a call and they can advice you.

I am slightly lactose intolerant (can have a little cow's milk in cereal and the like but drinking a glass straight gives me cramps), and I always drink goat's milk. It's supposed to be very healthy and it tastes great too.
