The US should have done that a long time ago.
Would have, maybe, stopped a lot of illegals to
enter their country from Canada.
You need a passport for any other country you
travel too, so why not the USA.
It is for your own protection also.

I believe, at a minimum, in having the same requirements for both countries. If Canada requires US citizens to have a passport when entering Canada by air (they do), then having Canadians show a passport when entering the USA seems equitable.
In addition, having a passport to enter or leave any country seems like a good idea. Ensuring that people entering one's country are who they say they are (as long as it's not an undue burden) seems like a good idea. I'm waiting for biometrics, so a retinal scan or fingerprint scan will do instead of a piece of paper.
So, to answer your other question, I tihnk it's a way to combat terrorism, and it could potentially be overkill if it becomes so much of a burden that it discourages tourism in both countries.
Thanks for the question! :)

Yes, I believe that they should!
If you think about it, truck drivers that work for the US have to show a passport or a birth certificate to enter or leave Canada! Even if they have their log books and invoices to show what they are hauling! And this has been going on since before I can even remember! So it is about time that Canada should have to basically do the same thing when entering the United States.

I think the USA has a right to ask for whatever they like. It's no big deal to get a passport. Although, the wait time to get one may be a little longer than normal with all the people having to have one. It's easier for us too. It's better to just show your passport than to haul out your birth certificate and drivers license.

I'm Canadian and I don't think it is overkill. They are two separate and distinct countries so yes,why not? What's the big deal.As long as Americans have to do the same to come here. At least it is proof of your citizenship and a country has a right to know who is entering.

I am more worried about the border at the south than I am the north...
We don't have Canadians coming in by the millions.
I think that we shouldn't allow other countried ID's as being valid.
US ID or passport.

I think a passport should be required for anyone from ANY country to enter another country. Same continent or not.
