Several weeks ago I injured my big toe playing tennis, I'm pretty sure it was "turf toe". It hurt for a few days, and eventually the pain ceased. However, this week I have noticed the toenail a little bit loose and tonight my foot rubbed against the carpet and the toenail is completely off except for it is still attatched from the bottom cuticle. I wrapped it in bandaids, what should I do? It could probably completely come off if I soaked it in water, but if so, will it grow back, how long would it take? What should I do in the meantime(shoe-wise, treatment?) Thanks!

The toenail needs to be removed because it will not re-attach itself to your toe.Yes, it will grow back. The time depends on each individuals hair/nail growth pattern. Maybe 2 months. The treatment depends on whether the skin is raw and bloody or dried out. If it is raw, keep an antibacterial ointment on it and enough gauze, telfa is better, it will not stick to the wound, where you can still wear a shoe comfortably. If the skin has already dried,a thin layer of ointment and bandaid will do.

Nails always grow back. ALWAYS! so get it off, otherwise it will keep pulling and opening new wounds and you will get an infection and could possible LOOSE your entire toe.. Just soak it and see if it falls off. If it doesn't then cut it as close to the cuticle as possible, put some bacitracin on it and a bandaid. Just make sure to put bacatracin NO MATTER WHAT it will stop any infections. And remebmber to keep it really clean because theres a lot of bacteria in your socks and shoes.

I think about 6 or 7 months...In the meantime, your manicurist can put an acrylic sculpture over the missing toenail in the event of a dire emergency. You should not keep this on for more than a week or so because the toenail needs air to breathe and grow. If you leave it on for more than a couple of weeks you will get toenail fungus and then you nail will never grow back or it will grow back deformed. The Toenail acrylic will cost about 10 bucks

I had a piano fall onto my toe in high school. This is what the doc told me after she pulled the off. As long as the matrix which forms the toenail at the base is not damaged your nail will grow back. She was right, mine gre back but it has never been quite the same.

Not to worry the toenail will grow back as our nails are always growing. They even continue to grow awhile after we die. I jammed my thumb into a tree once and the nail got infected and didn't heal until I removed the nail, afterwards which, it grew back like brand new. It doesn't happen over night but it will regenerate in a month or so.

If your toe is hurting then try 2 wear less tight shoes or ones that are like high heels or sandals. One time when my toe hurt i tryed soaking it in very hot water and it felt good. But if it gets really serious u should check it out with a doctor.

It takes a long time for a toe nail to grow back. take off the nail whenyou can because that one is done. You don't have turf toe. Turf toe is more of a long term injury than a freak accident one.

Go ahead and soak it...........it will grow back!! It takes a while, but I don't remember just how long. Put part of a cotton ball over it then cover that with a bandaid when you wear shoes, otherwise just let it air out so it will heal quicker.

Sounds like fungus. Gross, huh. Leave it alone and the dead nail will fall off and a new one will grow back. If it doesn't, you can get a prescription for nail fungus meds. Actually, there might be some stuff at the drugstore you can paint on it. Ask a pharmacist.
